I have recently purchased a 1979 fj43. and the first thing I changed out was the shocks. I then I noticed on other fjs that they had a steering stabilizer shock. I looked at mine and found a mounting hole on front frame but no connection by wheel. The previous owner had installed a power steering unit from a fj80. My question is does that take the place of the steering stabilizer shock or do I need to also install one? Which also means trying to find the connection arm to the wheel? thanks

the stock stabilizer would have attached to the center arm, if that is removed, you can use an aftermarket setup that attaches to the axle housing and the tierod.

I'm guessing this rig came from central America?

^^^this is maybe be your best solution ^^^
I think @bikersmurf figured a way to use a stk dampener. I run Scout steering which is similar and I dont run a dampener, but my steering geometry is spot on. You might not need one.

I can’t take credit for it as I saw it done locally by another mudder. He used 70 series TREs I believe. I used a mini truck and a 60 series damper.

Details…

My 79 fj40 has an fj60 steering box. I am running a fj60 tie rod that has the provision for the steering stabilizer. Like mentioned above there may be a 70 series TRE that is similar that has the right taper for the 80 series pitman arm. You could also swap out the 80 pitman arm for a 60 pitman arm. Both of these will likely require changes to you relay rod as well.

To answer your question in the other thread, no I haven't made that particlar rod before (I certainly could though).
On the installs we do here we use FJ80 pitman arm and TRE and just don't run a steering stabilizer. I have seen zero need for a steering stabilizer with an FJ60/80 box on a 40 from the 6-7 installs I have done
