Hello all, as the title states, I am looking at replacing my rack in the near future. I have an '06LX and am curious if anybody has used Advantage Steering for sourcing a rack. Any info. you could bestow would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's a lot of money to pay someone for a non-Toyota certified rebuild.

44250-60050 is $1100 new. Non-Toyota rebuild should be 25-30% of that.

Why are you replacing it? Toyota's service advice notwithstanding, the bushings can be replaced. For far less than $750.

@Malleus thanks for the info. To add context, I plan to replace due to leaking from one end of the rack (internal seal failure). Since mine is an 06 with the VGRS the rack part number is 44250-60120 which is priced out to 1,366 at my local Lexus dealer.

I am starting to notice more and more play (bushings) as well, so it is time to bite the proverbial bullet and replace it. It has 250k on it and it does see quite a bit of offroad use. I want to ensure the viability of the vehicle for many more miles. Yes, I plan on replacing the bushings at the same time I am in there.

Thanks again for the input.

I had my steering rack replaced with a non-oem unit at a local shop that carried only Napa parts. I explained that only an Oem would be suffice but they insisted on installing the Napa rack and was told it would be covered under warranty.
One month later I returned to the shop due to the rack leaking. This time they sourced the Oem from the dealer and installed it.
No issues since.

You can roll the dice and find out the hard way. General consensus on this forum is always use OEM.
roll the dice? The reason I am asking is to get a general consensus from those who have used them so I don't have to "roll the dice". Constructive criticism is welcomed.

Really, just get OEM. The part lasted 20 years in the first place, and the labor to replace it is ugly.

If you DIY or you use a mechanic that lets you bring your own parts...Toyota sale, 20% off wholesale and free shipping WOW. I don't know if your specific part number is included, but it's free to check.

More than a handful of people have substituted the Toyota part number in instead of buying the Lexus part: LC versus LX Steering Rack ? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/lc-versus-lx-steering-rack.951503/. There are a few more threads like that if you give it a quick search.

^^^ x2

I think the sale ends today....

The general consensus is to get oem. I've had a oem rebuild for a couple of years now and been very happy with it. Most people that go with aftermarket or attempt to rebuild themselves almost always end up regretting it. Mine is just a daily back and fourth to work vehicle. If I had planned on doing any kind of serious off roading I would have done brand new oem.

My Oem Toyota rack was $825.36 thru my toyota independent! With warranty, seems not worth it for an aftermarket parts

I used a new Cardone unit in my 2000 18 months / 25k miles ago. It’s been excellent on and off road, and it has a lifetime warranty. At the time I picked it up for $330 (less than half of an OEM), but they are now closer to $500.
