I have this spare steering box I pulled apart for spare parts. Its an early box not sure of the year, but steering wheel shaft is 17mm. I have a 1970 that I want a rebuild done which I discussed with Mark @65swb45 . Mark everything looks good, but thought I would post pictures.

Per my signature line, I’m out until Wednesday Troy. I’ve got 4 more carbs and two transfer cases to deal with when I get back; the sooner your job gets here, the sooner it will get in the line.

I just fired @daveb stock carb up this morning. I wished there were a few people there to see it. I cranked the motor until the bowl filled and it fired with a perfect idle without ever pumping the pedal. I don’t know why people think that only fool infection does that?🤷🏻‍♂️

Like I said when we spoke, send the extra sector if you can. It’s the outside faces of the roller that wears out, not the center V.

Mark steering box shipped from davenport Iowa yesterday , sector shaft and a pitman arm if needed shipped today from kenosha. Additional items I need are a good lower mount for column shift and a 3 to 4 bolt master cylinder adapter. Thanks

Mark, steering box arrived Friday from T. Bindell, sector bearing on Friday also. My current steering wheel splines measure 15mm and some change so hopefully that one is the same. Thanks- Troy

I’m still two weeks out from building this box, but I decided to open it up just now to reduce the space it’s taking in my front office, along with using the box for packing materials. The news is not good.

The nut and the threads on the top of the box are peened over.☹️ the shaft did not penetrate to the exterior; this happened INSIDE the box.
I’m not planning to short-circuit the other jobs already in progress to investigate this further. But I thought you and the seller should know this right away.

Troy, I got last last job ahead of you into the dip tank, so I did a breakdown on the steering box. Water came out, which is never a good sign. I got the worm gear into the vice, got the old nut off, and was able to draw the threads clean with a thread restoring file in 15 minutes.😉

When I wiped the crud off the housing itself, it was unfortunately bludgeoned, probably during the removal of the pitman arm. The hole for the seal is no longer round.☹️

Give me a call so we can discuss options.

He's away from his shop until the 8th, per his current signature line.
Thanks for the cover Lee.😊

Troy, I won’t be back at the computer until Monday to check for sure, but my hunch is that I forgot to add the other two parts. Obviously I’m not a high pressure salesman.😛
