1. let's beat this dead horse some more, and 2. interesting rattle events as of late:

Used to live in Colorado at about 8k feet and would get startup rattle all the time. use 41010 filters exclusively. Moved to Arizona a little more than 3 years ago and almost completely forgot about this rattle until it was brought up again recently here, and...

On my way to Moab recently I noticed that there, and at elevation in Flagstaff for instance the startup rattle was back with a vengeance like it sounded when I lived in CO. Now the effect of altitude and ambient pressure does have some effects in life, but I can't imagine it makes a difference on this, does it?

FWIW, I get next to no rattle living here at about 1k foot elevation, don't really know why that is.

I get plenty of rattle here in Tucson. 1-2 seconds at 2500' elevation. I did the oring trick and it mellowed for a while. I use thick oil and it mellows it out but it never really has gone away. My guess is every rig is a little different in regards to the rattle. Some have luck getting rid of it and others don't pay any attention to it. I am now in the latter camp.
