Starting to look like a Real 80...

Definitely... There are two systems widely used here in Dominican Republic, one is obviously more expensive than the other.... One goes direct through the injectors and the other one goes to the throtle body after passing throug what they call a burner..... the one through the injector for a 6 cyl engine is about 2,000 dollars, the other one is about 1,500 dollars.

These 2 are the most widely used, but there should be about 10 other brands and systems...

My 80 came with the cheap one and the power loss is noticeable, when I switch to gasoline on the fly, I can feel the surge.... I will be changing mine soon to the more expensive one, which has no power loss and a bit more efficient...

I can tell you that for the amount of money I save with my system, I don't mind the power loss, which should be about 20%... When I'm wheeling I try to use gasoline on climbs... And I always have a half tank of gasoline, each time I put LPG I add a coulpe of gallons of gasoline, that way I always have enough for when I need it....

Very nice looking rig.....decal does not bother me. When the time comes and you make the switch to the more expensive system, please report back and give us your take on it. How much more power/efficient it is. The rally looks like big fun.

Frank can you post pictures of your LPG system please?

Im also from DR and although i dont visit often i have relatives that do. I would be interested in obtaining a system for my 80.

BTW NICE RIG!

Thanks

WOW!!! THAT IS GOING TO BE A FUN TRIP!!!! TJM & Rigid are some way cool companies to work with!

I own a small 4x4 shop in DR and the day of the picture we were getting ready for the 800 miles 2012 Rally Frontera, which goes from Santo Domingo in the Mid Southern coast, all the way to the border with Haiti, going from the desert flats to the Caribbean highest mountain ranges and back to the flats.... So 218 was my number and the other stuff are for the brands I sell (Smittybilt, Procomp, TJM, Rotopax, G2, Rigid Industries Ligthing and others....) Will post a clean pic tomorrow....

I also prefer the clean look....

hi what is the cost and installation of natural gas system?

On a 6 Cyl. Vehicle it runs about 80,000 pesos, at the official rate per dollar of 39.15 is about $ 2,040 dollars.....

The only problem with it, is that the tanks for what hear are kind of small, so you don't have a good autonomy. The tanks are very high pressure steel tanks, so they become really heavy, that's the reason for them being that small, I hear they are introducing some lighter tanks made of fiberglass or some other resin.....

CNG measured as a gge (gallon of gas equivalent) has the same thermal energy as a gallon of unleaded gasoline. Therefore, is no power loss and no efficiency loss . engines do burn cleaner due to less particulate matter and pollutants.

we have converted many fleet vehicles to CNG here where I work so I know a little about them. I have even done a 2500mi road trip from Texas to California on 95% CNG. A CNG conversion on our LCs would be great but like Frank said, fuel storage is the current limitation. Tanks are often steel cylinders wrapped in carbon fiber. Tanks are big and heavy due to the fact that they must hold natural gas at 3600psi.

Just for some numbers, a conversion on one of our GM fleet vehicles is roughly $10k. 65% of that is tank cost, the rest is the regulator, injector, and computer.

SORRY for the hijack Frank!!

Hijack.... Not at all man.... That is some nice piece of information. Here in Dominican Republic is not as expensive, but I guess it is all about regulations and safety.....
