VERY nice work! Your attention to detail is impressive!

(On a related note: I sure wish I could get factory hose clamps to work for me, because I like the way they look on these old trucks. Unfortunately, more often than not, they end up leaking, and I can't seem to get them to permanently quit.......so I just stopped using them and switched to a stainless, european-style clamp)

Now it was pretty much down to the wiring and getting the air cleaner to fit.

With the rough draft of the prototype, it got us close, but not quite there:

I trimmed a little off the adapter, and relocated one of the mounting bolts on the air cleaner. It sits up a little higher now to clear the TBI. The adapter is as short as it can be.

We couldn’t find a gasket to fit the mouth of the air cleaner, so I made a temporary one out of FIPG.

JTU found a new sticker for the lid to put on after he media blasts the whole thing and makes it look new.

Is there any type of seal at the base of the air cleaner adapter?

Yep, application should be an air cleaner gasket for anything with a TBI.

Permatex Indian Head sealant is the key

Way back when I sold JTU a core 4 speed and case out of the Delta Beast that needed to be rebuilt. He was planning on sending it to @orangefj45 so I sent him a nice test of his turd polishing abilities

Turns out, it was so bad that even Georg didn’t want anything to do with it.

So as I geared up to refund JTU his core money he offered that if I helped him put the thing in when he got it back we would be square

Georg pulled him a nice core from his stash and polished it right up as only he can do.

Swapping a 4 speed into a 3 speed truck is a fairly involved process.

JTU started collecting parts as he went and I kept adding to his list.

As early as Monday he was still looking for a flywheel. @FJ60Cam had one. Problem is, the drivetrain was still wrapped around it

A little Tom Sawyer action later and he was paying Cam to tear the drivetrain apart.

Saturday arrived and we thought we had it all ready so I greenlighted the project.

We had to pull the interior which was baked in with Bed liner. It all has to come out.

Once there you have to pull everything from the back of the motor including the bellhousing which acts as the rear motor mount.

About 4 hours later it was on the floor and we started putting things back in.

Then we discovered that we had the wrong throwout bearing holder and arm for the 4
Speed clutch setup.

At this point we could put the old (fairly new) 3 finger pressure plate back on or find the right part.

Ended up @dnp had it but he was in Colorado. Rob was kind enough to go meet JTu with the part.

While he was gone, Jerry and I got the flywheel and pressure plate in place.

JTU let me know he was headed back so I made sure he got some food

Unfortunately when communicating with JTU you have to be very specific.

“Get food for the people helping you” it should have read

Do JTU lands back at 2:30 smiling happily from his 5 guys lunch and we got busy putting it back in.

The clutch fork from the 3 speed was wrong as was the one we got from DNP. I had one in my stash that worked so we mated the throwout collar from Price with the arm I had.

Done.

Also the bellhousing bolts for the 3 speed are different pitch than the 4 speed so we dug around and found a few.

We got it stabbed and in place.

I sent JTu under to put the parking brake drum on and discovered the crossmember is in the way and we can’t get the drum on.

That was my sign to call it a day. I have not looked it up but it must have to be cut out and relocated. Gonna have to happen another day.

JTU rolled out about 5 pm.

He still needs driveshaft mods as well.

Long day. Lots learned. JTU will have to update us on the rest

I should have just given him his money back :)

Does the new combo re-use the bellhousing/frame mounts, or does it switch to the later mount under the transmission w/removable crossmember?

Stopped at Berrys for a Bacon Cheese burger and while that 1/2# of raw chuck was cooking I pressure washed 3 years of Delta dust off of it

I got home. Strapped it to a tree and drove the trailer out from under it and rolled it into the shop.

JTU forgot he had robbed the battery out and he has the key so I’m dead until the key gets here but I got the punch list done.

Fluids
Trans Hump and tank installed. Seats. Shifters.
Parking brake adjusted

Ordered shafts from Tom Woods and a speedo cable from @cruiseroutfit
