Hey all,
New to MUD and to cruisers in general, I'd appreciate it if one of you could answer my question. I've got my heart set on a light duty 78 (engine doesn't matter, I'm swapping it out) but I would really, really, really prefer to have the more square and angular grill and nose of the '89 models and earlier. I would normally just get a pre-1990 light duty, but I've only been able to find short wheelbase models from that time period. I haven't seen any KZJ/LJ78s with the square nose and grill and round headlights --- with the exception of one, in a Facebook ad for a KZJ78 sold in 2015:
Toyota LandCruiser Prado Kzj78 Rare Round Headlight ~ SOLD | Facebook
Of course, the model year is nowhere to be found and thus I still have no idea if Toyota even made any long wheelbase light duty cruisers with the square nose and circular headlights after 1989. Any information you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.

As I understand ( and could very well be wrong) the LJ78 (along with the LJ77 and LJ79) were only made 1990-1993 followed by the KZJ version in 1994. The short and mid wheel base were around earlier. Again, that's my understanding but....others will chime in I'm sure.
I think the one you found was a personal modification to the round headlight and not factory. Let's see what others say.

That's the thing, it looks like the entire front end is the same style as the pre-1990 models. I don't think this was a simple headlight and grill mod. I hope this wasn't a custom job because that makes my job a lot harder...

I also believe the vehicle you want does not exist in stock form. However, here is an LJ78 with a Heavy Duty 70 series front clip conversion. And IMO, the HD front clip looks a bit nicer than the LD round headlamp front clip.

As the others have said , there is no LWB models before 1990. Even the hood on the LWB models looks to have a rounded front. So its either some expensive panel replacement or some expensive body work.
I would buy a HZJ77 and put a 84-90 HJ/FJ75 grill in it.

Are those standard 7" lights? Did your truck come with those round light buckets, or did you add them?

Yeah those are standard (although LED) 7" headlights. The truck came from Japan like this. These shrouds are definitely aftermarket but they are purpose-made for the KZJ7x.

@FisherTibia

Well the truck came with these from Japan. I have seen pictures of similar setups from there so I believe they are/were an aftermarket option in Japan. Mine look injection molded to fit this exact grill.
I'd say someone with CAD skills can whip up a design for 3D printing.

Best of luck!
