Shouldn't the shop be "inspecting" the engine before install?

Regardless as is typically the case the customer ends up eating it, surely not helped in this scenario by sourcing the engine independently (probably trying to save money). Likely ends up paying thousands more than anticipated to get back on the road. Not to mention downtime and stress endured.
 
Well, the OP works at a dealership and can probably take more risks. If you are risk averse, you should have the shop handle the sourcing of the engine. If you are very risk averse, you will just sell the vehicle as is and buy a new one.
 
So.....soon I might be figuring out how to write a classified add for my 2014 LC that has an engine in need of a pacemaker. Maybe ChatGBT? :);)

Things to watch for which may push you to take it to a radio/car alarm install place or similar:

• Removing the lower dash and the airbag
- Be triple sure which electrical wiring to hook up to (fused as well) and check with a volt meter between car turned off, one time start button press and two times. I have had bad experience several decades back now things changing polarity when the key or start button is used.

I don’t like the idea of messing with airbags myself.
And I also am not in love with letting the, perhaps disinterested, employees at a radio/car alarm mess with my airbag.

Has anybody seen or written a guide on how to add a USB power port to one of the spare buttons under the steering wheel?

I have seen several examples of these buttons installed in this forum (I’m looking at you @Tex68w ) but nothing to tell me if it’s the kind of thing I can do, given my limited skill-set.

Ah. I guess that makes sense.

Though I would prefer to do the add-a-fuse to the fuse box on the passenger side since you lose the cover on the one on the driver side when you add a fuse.
But I suppose I could figure a way to run the wire over to the driver side behind the infotainment center somehow.

So…. Then…. That’s half of it.
So I guess my next task is to google for any instructions on how to get at those buttons to change them out a blank with a plug.

It all comes out easily. You have to remove them from the backside.

Are my TPMS sensors shot? I used one of those TPMS specific scanners and could only get 1 out of 5 wheels to respond. I have some secondhand black TRD Tundra wheels, probably a few years newer than my old stock wheels. My '08 readout registered them once when I put them on, but have always been stuck on CHECKING ever since. Tried it on a buddy's Tundra and had the same problem even though his sensors were replaced last year. On the wheels that responded the scanner read low on the measured PSI vs. a regular tire pressure gauge. The scanner was some XTOOL branded thing that I suspect is junk.

What’s your elevation? Being high up will cause that difference between what the sensor can read from inside the tire compared to the gauge that measures the difference between inside and atmosphere.

…not that this solves your problem.

I was of the understanding the 200 and tundra sensors weren't compatible.. though yours registering them at all makes me wonder.

I was thinking the same thing, my guess was that maybe it “worked” the first time when his old wheels were still in range.

Yeah, and I didn’t even think to ask if they programmed the tundra IDs into their vehicle before the tundra sensors worked.. that detail could definitively answer whether it was picking up the old ones.
