Minimum is 87 octane. I would run that. There are places in the country where there are lower octane, which may mean using "mid-grade" to maintain the 87.

On the LX, the manual states 91. I run 91, but if the prices go back up approaching $4, I will be running 87.

Okay here's a quick one (for non-diesel 200 Land Cruisers): Regular, Mid grade, or Premium unleaded?
As long as the retailer is Top Tier (Top Tier Gasoline), use whichever grade you want. Toyota says you will get better "performance" with 91 Octane, but anything >87 works just fine.

Lexus specs 91 Octane, but I suspect that is because they also spec 3 more horsepower for the same engine and need the extra Octane to make that spec :hmm:

My theory was always that there is no difference between the LX and LC spec...but they figured they'd better "require" premium so as to evoke a "luxury" vibe.

Could premium be the difference for those 2 horsepower? That's less than 1%...so...maybe?

I use Premium in my LC for better or for worse...

My brain tells me reputable 87 octane all day long.

But I'll be honest, my big hairy (and at times obsessive compulsive) cajones force me to run Shell V-Power Nitro+ Premium. I also add AMSOIL Performance Improver every 5K. I have a problem.

^^ Agreed. ;) The only reason that I'm running 91 in the LX is because it is still under warranty. Once that goes, it will be 87 all day long!

i asked that earlier.. regular grade fuel is fine to run.

There is a difference in specs.

But I was wrong - the Premium fuel buys you only 2 extra horsepower, not 3, and I overlooked the 2 extra ft-lbs of torque the Premium buys you.

Despite all that, I still pull up to the Premium pump all the time - it just makes me feel better ;)

Like he said, no difference... I've run 87 octane in MY LX (my son filled it up) and no issues.

Big bonus buying the LC over LX is the 87 octane

I'm more concerned about that politically charged crap called ethanol that is blended with gasoline. Does 91 contain ethanol?

as far as my area is concerned, i believe almost all of it has some level of ethanol.

Every so often you hear of a station that advertising ethanol free gas, but you really have to search it out.

Same here. All octanes have ethanol blended in at an 80/20 ratio.

I downloaded that Pure Gas app that was discussed somewhere on here recently. Great concept but I'm still no where near a gas station that sells ethanol free gas. I'd be willing to put almost any octane level in if I could get it without ethanol...

Pardon my ignorance, but why do people not like the ethanol in the gas? I know I can't run it in my chain saw because it was not designed for it, but I thought these rigs were.

Ethanol attracts water for one thing. Another is it is not good for performance, costing you horsepower and miles per gallon. Ethanol is also corrosive to rubber seals. Thanks to the above link, I found several gas stations in Sheridan that sell ethanol free gasoline. the gas cap says no E15. That ought to tell you something.

What is this? I was thinking of attaching some D-rings (probably home made) and use them for light tie-down points. Any ideas what they are for? Searched the manuals to no avail.

Very interesting ... I never noticed those attachment points.

No idea what they were intended for, but would like to know, too.

Wondered same. Figured it was some long-lost net anchor point, or some doo-dad the original owner lost. I have found no reference to it anywhere...
