Moonshine is the tow-er not the tow-ie.

Ride out was super smooth with the new shocks and caster shims! Made it to this point in roughly 4 hours, so not too bad.

We rolled up to the beach and found this guy not 15 feet from the entrance. First up was Brian, then I got a shot.

I hitched up to the tundra, gave it a good pull and when she dug down to get traction, the tundra popped up. At the same time, moonshine made a popping noise, apparently only audible from the cab, and there was no more forward or rearward propulsion. Motor still ran, but driveshafts weren't spinning, so instead of ruining the weekend, we instead elected to tow me up to the house. Huge thank you to @GarnerFJ40 and @erymer for towing me :D

Further up the beach we had to go down to one truck because it got narrow, and that's when the towing got interesting. After getting up over a steep hill, we bombed down the beach so as to not get bogged down again and moonshine was pelted with sand, so much so that the windshield wipers stopped working. I radioed to Brian "Uh, Brian, we've got to stop because I can't see anything". His response (more or less) "I can't stop because we probably won't get going again". The only logical conclusion was to do it ace venture style, and although painful, it worked well and we made it to the house.

This is when Gabe's video happened:

This is what my poor girl looked like afterwards (I had just wiped the driver's side of the windshield):

Saturday was a blur and totally amazing. We ate, we drank, we lounged in the pool and watched a new ford burn on the beach, then found some wild horses. It was quite the day:

Sunday was pack up and leave day. @erymer and his family stayed with Laura and I as we waited for the tow truck to get there, despite having a 6+ hour drive home. I love you guys, thank you.

Got dropped off almost exactly 200 miles from that lot and then @mtweller and @ontherxs helped load moonshine onto Ramon's trailer, who brought me the rest of the way home for free, instead of for $3 a mile.

Every single time I come out to an event something amazing happens. This time, it everyone coming together to help Laura and I get home, without sacrificing the whole weekend. Thank you, all of you. This is my family and I am grateful to have the privilege of knowing each and every one of you

So, more skinny pedal for next year, right guys? :hillbilly:

Oh come on...so what broke?

You didn't try to mend the issue while at the house?

Nope, didn't try to mend the issue at the house, haven't taken it apart yet to diagnose.

Here are the symptoms, give me your thoughts as to what the problem may be:

1. Engine well runs as it always does
2. Clutch pedal feels the same
3. Transmission shifts just fine
4. Transfer shifts just fine
5. No play in the transfer outputs at all (same as before)
6. When you let the clutch out in any gear, the engine appears to experience minute load (giving impression that clutch works) but neither the front, nor rear, driveshafts spin
7. Verified that there are no more/less leaks of engine/trans/transfer than before
8. Thorough visual inspection to verify that nothing looked out of place

Weird, I would suspect sheared input or idler shaft in T-case. If trans is shifting through and feels right it seems it is not there and T-case shifting is down stream in the T-case. I know that pop sound, my rear output shaft on the FJC made that sound, no one else heard it

That's the exact same conclusion I came to and is the reason I did not disassemble the transfer at the beach. Irregardless of what the problem is with the trans or transfer case, there is no way I would be able to get that part by Sunday at 10am. Besides, I pay for the super premium AAA, might as well use it, right @CharlestonG8R :D

It's a good thing the Keefer and Rymer Chariot Towing Service has no yearly caps and will get you over dunes and through seafoam. Window seats along with in transit snacks and drinks are standard!

I hope you saved it then! I've seen spindle nuts that are scored on the back, but none that are worn down that thin.

HS. I thought it was a washer and dismissed it. NICE sanding job.

The story doesn't stop there. Trying to leave and the battery died on me. Got boosted off and was backing up and backed into a car. Yay. Stopped at Napa to check and my alternator is shot. Thankfully warranty bought me a new battery. Picked up a second to try and make it home since there were no alternators around. Leaving Manteo now. Prayers appreciated.

AWESOME Ace Ventura video!!!

Well, I guess it was trying to tell us something early in the week. Sucks that you guys just left Manteo! Did you wait on an alternator? How bad was the other car?

I've been talking with them this afternoon. No alternators available in Manteo, so they're going to try make it up here to swap it out. Found one down the street from my house.

So, damage thus far is:

1. Spindle/spindle nut from the @forrest5000
2. Unknown broken part on Moonshine
3. alternator and a battery on the Albino Rhino

Brian end up taking a later flight, or did he manage to get the 3:15 due to some miraculous delay due to the airlines? If we hadn't hit a accident on 64 near 440, we would have had him there on time!

Do you have it
