Hi All

I turned the car off the either day and there was a very odd surging noise coming from what I thought was the CD/DVD player. I thought that was odd given I rarely use either of those. Just heard it again while the car was running today. Turned the climate control off. Didn't help. Turned the radio off. Didn't help. Put a CD in and discovered the noise was coming from more below the CD player area. Turned the car off and continued to hear for for another 10 seconds or so.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what this might be?

Thank you in advance

I hear this I my 2014. Sounds like a hard disk drive booting up. Thought it may be part of the entertainment system/navigation.

Does it sound like this? Have had this issue since I purchased the vehicle. What's interesting is I test drove 3 LX570's and all exhibited the noise.

On my vehicle, it only happens maybe 1/4 of the time I drive it.

Does it go away or change toneif you smack the dash?
I had a groan in my hvac air fan. It’s under the glovebox but the sound seemed to come from center dash.
it’s pretty easy to replace and cost $40

Yep, that's it!

Thanks grinchy. Please see the vid that sparkyblue posted. Was that your issue as well? Thanks

Our 14LX only does this when it’s extremely cold out.

When it’s below zero and has been left outside overnight you can also hear the cooling fan of the head unit making contact with its shroud. The metal must shrink enough for there to be interference.

There are fans located in the sides of the lower nav unit (behind the knobs) and I’m 99% sure this sound is the bushings on them getting worn out, then the main shaft of the fan wobbling around in a circular pattern. Cold can make this worse on some as the grease gets more viscous.

The fan is behind the grate oriented toward me in this picture.

Oh boy. Solution? Am guessing yours is out for a reason...

Was it difficult and or time consuming to pull?

Thanks!

Mine was out because I was too aggressive with the power/volume knob and broke one of the tabs on it, so it came out to repair. Wasn’t too bad to get out, the only tricky part was the shiny black trim at the top of the dash around that speaker. This is specific to landcruiser though, even if the modules are similar in cooling format the LX may have significant differences with trim removal.

Mine doesn’t make the noise, but I have absolutely heard that near exact sound with other small cooling fans that are worn out. I have decided if mine does this I’ll be pulling the unit and opening it to diagnose and probably replace the fans.

Bumping this up.

Could this be related to the amp fan under the seat?

How did you fix it?
