I was at CruiserFest last week, and I spotted a 70 Series with a MPH Speedo.
However, I am having trouble deciphering the proper one. It was in a 1998 HZJ75 "General Countries"

83220-60210 MILE & KM, W(TACHOMETER) (08/1996 - 07/1997)
83220-60211 MILE & KM, W(TACHOMETER) (08/1997 - 07/1999)

83220-60360 MILE & KM, W(LEAD SWITCH) (08/1996 - 07/1997)
83220-60361 MILE & KM, W(LEAD SWITCH) (08/1997 - 07/1999)

83220-60380 MILE & KM (08/1996 - 07/1997)
83220-60381 MILE & KM (08/1997 - 07/1999)

I'm looking for the one in this photo. I'm guessing it is the 2nd one listed, but not for sure.
IF anyone knows for sure, please let me know.
Thanks, Don

You should have taken a picture of the VIN plate. That would be the definitive method to answer your question.

That said, how did you come up with those part numbers? How were you able to delimit them?

Regardless, more than likely, any iteration of the speedometer is probably discontinued from Toyota.

Beno, I just ran 1998 HZJ75 in Toyodiy. I felt guilty opening the doors to take a pictures at the museum. I would have really felt bad popping hoods.

Canadian model BJ-70's had these.

Not in my experience.
I previously have owned a Canadian spec 1985 BJ70 and currently own two Canadian spec 1986 BJ70s; they all were equipped with [kilometers] and [kilometers / hr] as the primary display data (with [miles / hr] as secondary display information). However, the speedometer/odometer pictured showed [miles] and [miles / hr] as the primary information displayed which is not a match to my Canadian spec vehicles.

I have not personally encountered a Canadian spec 1987 BJ70 so I can not confirm the configuration of that speedometer/odometer. {1985-1987 were the only years for Canadian spec BJ70s} However, my experience leads me to see this question as an open question meriting deeper research.

Larry, Thanks for that response! I'm glad someone else found the MPH speedo with MPH odometer to be interesting.
GunRunner, I think the cable input/mechanical input that drives this speedo may be the same on a 4Runner,
but in order to mount it in most of the 70 series instrument clusters, it would be a challenge. The face dial has different
dimensions and mounting points are different. The older post has some pics of the differences in various speedos. In short, I think you may see a gap/air or you will have to do some trimming with some of the other Toyota speedometers. In the end it probably wouldn't be too pretty as a DIY project. I would have never imagined there were that many Toyota speedo variations, but apparently there are.

if you have a cad buddy and a decal cutter, you can make your own :)

Thanks Andrew,
I am use to the KPH aspect of the Speedo, that doesn't really bother me.
The odometer in miles is what appeals to me mostly (less thinking for my old brain on road trips).

My Panama vehicle is in Kilometers, and I never second guess it since what signage that exists,
Matches up with odometer when I reset it.

Just a pet peeve of mine, but I'll work through it. Sigh.

You can get speedometer apps for your phone which can be displayed in mph or kph.

How did you create that MPH template?

Well that is too bad. I suppose I could make my own if I really wanted to but I thought this template would save me the trouble. In the meantime I have bigger fish to fry.

I like the Canadian Spec BJ70 speedometer.

But what I'd really prefer is a GPS speedometer.... perhaps something like the Dakota Digital for the FJ40. How many would we need to order for them to make one specifically for the early 70 series?
