I'm in search of a speedo cable for my 60. My local dealer says that they only carry the entire cable assembly with the outer cable, ends, and such. I just need the cable. When I had my 68 I was able to get just the cable from Toyota.

Anyone know if the FJ40 cable would work?

Or does anyone have the part number for just the 60 cable?

Try cruiserparts.net Thats where I got mine

check out the LC tech on pirate.

last i saw, there has been some talk about toyota van cables, cressida wagon and trooper cables fitting splitcase cruisers.

lengths to suit just about every combo of trans/case/doubler set ups.

should work for stockers too. this is a CHEAP ass junk yard part, SWEET! another reason to go to the junk yard!

crusty ;)

I bought a complete cable from CCOT $20. It looked like decent quality, but It lasted about two weeks and the inner cable broke.
Bought a universal inner cable kit from the local CarQuest auto parts store for $7.50. Came with misc ends, but had to reuse the Toyota's tranny end and crimp it on the new cable. Has been fine ever since.

My needle is jumping, and I can hear the cable squeaking. Had it apart once to install my Scion HU, but couldn't figure out how to lube it. Does it have to be disconnected from both ends and pulled out to fully lubricate? What is recommended lubricant?

I pulled it from the tcase, pulled the inner part out, cleaned it up, degreased it, then lubed it with a generous amount of lithium grease (probably a bit too much), coaxed it back in, then attached a drill to the tcase end of it and SLOWLY turned the cable to seat the other end back into the speedo's receiver. Then I just turned it to match the keyway on the speedo and popped it back on. Helped the jumpy needle, but it's still obvious that's it's a cable driven unit.

Also, when slipping the inner part back into the outer sleeve, it helps to turn it bit by bit. then when you've got about 6" or so left you can put a drill on it to help in getting the rest in.

Wear nitrile gloves too cause they helped me grip the greased up cable much better.

Total noob question...

how do you get to the speedo connector to disconnect? I was messing with mine last week and couldn't get the guage cluster out far enough to do squat. Is there an easy way - trick? or do i need to pull the dash? I bought a new speedo cable from toyo (friends a mechanic - his discount) and want to get it in.

thanks!

I've never pulled the speedo cable completely out. Only removed the inner part from the housing/sleeve. Pulling the dash apart is hard, but I've done it so many times I can do it in 5 minutes with my eyes closed now. One of the most important things to do is lower your steering wheel all the way and remove all the wiring and reach in to disconnect the speedo when you have the dash jockeyed out anouth to get a hand in there. Once everything's disconnected it's a piece of cake to get out. Reconnecting the cable to the speedo with the other end connected to the tcase is a BITCH though! Disconnect it from the tcase, get the plastic part onto the speedo, then use a drill to slowly turn the cable from the tcase end to seat the cable onto the speedo's receiver. When it's in, just turn it to line the keyway up with the tcase and reattach it to the tcase.

Another stoopid noob question - Does it matter which direction you turn the cable with the drill? Counter/clockwise? I'd be afraid that if I turned it the wrong way it would break my needle...

Did mine a few weeks ago to put in my Scion radio. I think it's a squeeze release latch on the back of the speedo, so you have to get your hand in there and squeeze to release it, but to put it back on you just have to push. You have to go in from the right side, with the gauge cluster angled forward enough to make a gap for your hand/forearm.

Yeah, getting your hands back in there is tough, so it's difficult if you have big hands / big forearms (which I don't).
