I never use the trucks computer for average miles per gallon info or any gas related info (or really any info, I find it so primitive, yet I set it on the tire pressure info screen because.... well, I guess that's neat and somewhat entertaining?) but decided to this week.

I have been getting on average 15-16 MPG with normal use around town and some highway. This is figured by miles driven divided by gallons used. Easy Peasy Japa.... (nev... mi....)

Easy stuff, right?

Typically I run regular unleaded 87 with 10% ethanol because that's what you mainly get around here even though it is a terrible type of fuel. This past Tuesday I used regular unleaded but in the NON ETHANOL variety.

I drove to the Chapel Hill NC area and back clocking 375 miles before the low fuel light came on. That is without a doubt the most miles I've put on this truck with a single tank. Period.

Anyhoo...... when my low fuel light comes on and I fuel up, I generally can put 19.5 to 20 gallons in. If I drive more with the light on, of course I can put more fuel in. I believe them most I've ever been able to pump is 22 gallons.

So....... my fancy computer is saying I'm averaging 17.9 MPG. I am JACKED! I'm already doing the "non ethanol is .30 more per gallon versus 10% ethanol time X amount of miles..." math in my head.

At 375 miles, give or take, my low fuel light comes on and I pull over to fill up. Computer is still saying 17.9 MPG. I pump 20.02 gallons into the truck, all I could get in the tank, then do the math.

My math is telling me 375 / 20.02 = 18.7 MPG.

Which

Incidentally

I feel is pretty impossible with the 200 LC.

My driving was usual for a business trip. 85 to 90 mph on the interstate, maybe 80 or so miles on country roads where speeds are 30 to 60 mph with some red lights. I certainly got better mileage with the non ethanol fuel.

What's up with that?

Nice results! Here is my new average after changing to 295/65's. My hwy rpm is lower. Note, my speedo is off 5% though.

Wow!

I SHOULD MENTION THAT I HAVE NOT CHANGED MY SPARK PLUGS. STILL THE FACTORY PLUGS, 90K+ MILES, 09'.

Then yours are still running strong! I lost over 2mpg when I hit 110K and couldnt figure out why. Checked tire pressure, air cleaner, alignment you name it and nothing helped until I swapped plugs. Id love to try some non-ethanol and see what happens. Might need to call around. More energy per gallon has to help.

Next time you fill up, do the "miles driven / gallons used" and see how that compares to your computer read out.

That's the main thing I'm wondering here. Mine saying 17.9 but my math saying 18.7.

You could be getting 27.99 mpg, you never know.....

That's the ticket.

FWIW - I know that you can drive ~40 miles past the "0 miles to empty" .. Tested that out a few times :]

Okay, I have never gotten close to 18 mpg, let alone 19. Even when driving at a constant 65 MPH, I may be lucky to get just under 16. You guys running pixie dust or something in your tanks?

Thanks for being our "canary in the coal mine" !
Ha, I'm not as brave as that sounded, had a 5 gallon Jerry can on back of rig. Also, my avg. MPG is closer to 14.. best all time for me is probably road trip / all highway around 18.

Ahem...

:p

I'm bone stock with 75K miles and got 18.6 mpg on a road trip (hand calculated) going about 70-75 mph.

Came back from the beach two weekends ago and we were on empty two lane roads with 55 mph speed limit and the computer was telling us we were averaging 19.5 since our fill up. Roads were flat and we were cruising at about 60.

I'm pleased with this mileage!

Its had to make sure I am keeping focus while driving on the highway with one had at 65mph. :hillbilly:

I bought my '13 two weeks before I took a hunting trip to Colorado and back. On that first trip, loaded for bear .... errr ..... elk, I had two tanks that averaged over 20 MPG with the cruise set on between 70 and 75 MPH.

I use the Car Manage app to track costs and as of my last fill up, I am averaging 15.6 MPG over 34,180 miles of driving.

How the :censor: do you get 375 miles out of a tank???

That's almost the best I've gotten but I've got a 90+45L fuel tank
:bang: must replace lead foot

Thats from Fort Smith Arkansas to Flora, MS.

Not coasting. Just finding the sweet spot with cruise control and driving through the Mississippi/Arkansas Delta.

And I'm at 10.5 MPG last two tanks. I have no interstates in my neighborhood, so its all mostly town miles. And things are not exactly flat around here. But still 10.5 mpg.
I've got a '09 with only 32k miles. Any suggestions?

yes - start saving for the cruiser fund and try to keep that account on the DL from the wife / girlfriend or both.

I was trying the "Supercharger will improve the fuel economy" line of reasoning.
I got the cruisers I want. Would just be happier with 15mpg
