I never use the trucks computer for average miles per gallon info or any gas related info (or really any info, I find it so primitive, yet I set it on the tire pressure info screen because.... well, I guess that's neat and somewhat entertaining?) but decided to this week.
I have been getting on average 15-16 MPG with normal use around town and some highway. This is figured by miles driven divided by gallons used. Easy Peasy Japa.... (nev... mi....)
Easy stuff, right?
Typically I run regular unleaded 87 with 10% ethanol because that's what you mainly get around here even though it is a terrible type of fuel. This past Tuesday I used regular unleaded but in the NON ETHANOL variety.
I drove to the Chapel Hill NC area and back clocking 375 miles before the low fuel light came on. That is without a doubt the most miles I've put on this truck with a single tank. Period.
Anyhoo...... when my low fuel light comes on and I fuel up, I generally can put 19.5 to 20 gallons in. If I drive more with the light on, of course I can put more fuel in. I believe them most I've ever been able to pump is 22 gallons.
So....... my fancy computer is saying I'm averaging 17.9 MPG. I am JACKED! I'm already doing the "non ethanol is .30 more per gallon versus 10% ethanol time X amount of miles..." math in my head.
At 375 miles, give or take, my low fuel light comes on and I pull over to fill up. Computer is still saying 17.9 MPG. I pump 20.02 gallons into the truck, all I could get in the tank, then do the math.
My math is telling me 375 / 20.02 = 18.7 MPG.
Which
Incidentally
I feel is pretty impossible with the 200 LC.
My driving was usual for a business trip. 85 to 90 mph on the interstate, maybe 80 or so miles on country roads where speeds are 30 to 60 mph with some red lights. I certainly got better mileage with the non ethanol fuel.
What's up with that?
