I have some 4.5 (IIRC) and tweets mounted in my doors with 6.5" speakers in the back and a old 8" pioneer bass tube like this

The bass is fairly impressive considering but I need to replace the crappy 6" speakers in the back. 6x9" is on the list..
Also, the larger speakers in the door are under the stock speaker grate. I've never been a fan of cutting into the door panel. In the rear, my panels were made out of wood anyway. No drama there at all

Seriously I did not have an issue a couple years back putting in Sony Explodes into my doors. I don't have anything in the back. Are you using the stock wiring for the door speakers? It's pretty thin. I pushed in some thicker wires.

It was difficult to find speakers to fit behind the factory front door grilles, but I think I found some 5.25 round ones that did. I din't want big aftermarket grilles up front. I put 6x9s in the side panels in the rear.

Funny...had a stereo put in yesterday and 5-1/4" Kickers fit behind the stock grill in the front...

5 1/4" were stock size for the OEM setup. Think it was even the same for the speaker hole in the dash.
Expanding to 6 1/2" speakers in the doors is what takes a bit of modding.
