Last I checked there aren't any stock speakers in the back seat doors. I think those have been added custom.
Ok that is what I thought just wanted to make sure.. might have to add that to the list of mods for my 60 when I get it.

Just put these in my front doors:

TS-G1344R - 5¼" 2-Way Speaker | Pioneer Electronics USA

$50 at Best Buy. They fit in the stock holes, but you have to drill holes for sheet metal screws, as the speakers have four holes, and the stock Toyota door speakers only had three. Easy to do, though.

The fit is just a touch too deep, so that the window will rattle against the back of the speaker with the window down. It will roll down easily, but the rattle was bugging me.

I used several tiny washers underneath the speaker mounting flanges to space them out some, then put some felt on the back of the speakers. Now with the window down, the window touches the felt, but no rattle, and no problem rolling the window up and down.

Cheap, easy, and sound great. Even decent bass response for a front door speaker.

Go to an auto radio place that does just car audio. You can get spacers and all is solved. I have 1.25 " spacers and things work great with a 6" speaker.

Yes, I bought some $20 spacers for those rear door speakers and installed them myself. Once the spacer is in place, you'll clear the glass just fine. Just make sure you fasten the spacer to the sheet metal in the door. I have 3 screws holding it in place and then the speaker attached by 4 screws to the spacer. It's solid. The only other thing to be careful of is the little metal arm that catches the door when all the way open. As the door closes, the arm protrudes into the door. One of my speaker magnets rubs on that arm a little as I didn't account for the full range of motion when I mounted it. I resolved that issue in the second door, so I know it can be done right.

Good luck, and post back up with what you decide to do!

Thank OyajiJon.. much appreciated! I am sure that it adds some good sound to the car, but did you do any sound deadening inside those doors? Did you have to do any extra cutting or anything when you installed them. How did you do the wiring for them when running line for the speakers?

Seems like that would make for a great setup with some full-range 3-ways in the front doors and then some components in the back doors and more bass oriented in the rear cargo..

No interference with the windows. I did toss the triangle things.

This is a temp setup for me, as I plan on making new panels for mid/tweet install.

At this time I'm just running the pioneers front/back 5.25"/6.5" in the stock locations, along with a couple of EarthQuake Shallow 10" subs.

Why so many screws?

I added some strips of Dynamat to the outer skin and inner sheet metal. Not too much...just wanted to stop vibrations. As far as cutting goes, I used some tin snips to trim the inner sheet metal only the amount necessary to position the speakers. I used tin snips because they're fast and easy and cleaned up the cut with pliers and files. It worked out well and came out clean. Regarding wiring, there are grommets in the B-pillar and door. My amp is mounted under my driver's seat, so the speaker wire run was easy under the carpet, into the B-pillar, through the two grommets and into the door. If you remove the plastic trim on the B-pillar and open the door, you'll see how I ran the wire. I think it's pretty obvious.

HTH

Don't mean to resurrect the dead thread here but got a few questions.

Where are people mounting their amp?

All the decks I am seeing have the RCA ends.....so I am assuming I need an amp to go into deck. So I am wondering where everyone is putting thier amp.

Thanks

i have my alpine 5 channel amp under the passenger seat. fits easy with room to spare.

Yeah I have seen a few picks where most people either mount under the driver/passenger seats or mount under the back seat. you will want it in a decent place where it can breathe well as the amp will produce (depending on size) a good amount of heat.

Been looking at stereos with integrated bluetooth as my state now requires a hands-free kit or it is a $250 ticket (same as with Cali). From what I have seen the Alpine CDE-125/133BT have gotten the best review for sound quality and the newer 133 has bluetooth streaming so you can stream directly from your phone to the unit (for music). This will be my first "upgrade" once I get my cruiser.

I ordered these speakers based on this post, but they didn't fit my vehicle. The installers said that the depth was okay, but the front rim of the speaker was too thick, and that the back of the panel was pressed tightly against the front of the speaker, no-go.
They went through several sets and sizes in their inventory, and ended up successfully installing a pair of Alpine speakers, 5 1/4", Model SPS-510. I didn't see the work, but they said they used about a 1/8" spacer on the window track, to allow the window to roll down past the back of the speaker. They sound good, and look stock behind the door panels and grilles.

Thats surprising cause I have been running those speakers for almost 4 years now with no problems.

Hello everyone. I’ve been stalking this forum for quite some time. I’d thought I’d share my experience putting in new front speakers in my 84 fj60. I will attach pics but I was able to find a pair of 5.25” kenwoods that fit without cutting. I used the original speaker to create a mounting ring. Used tin snips to cut the old speaker out while preserving the mounting holes. I used the wire exstensions that came with new speakers and soldered then to the original speaker wires. In my cruiser the positive was the stripped wire and negative solid black.

Just to throw another option into the mix:
Remote Faceplate

I later added speakers to the rear panels:
Rear Panels and Speaker

I recently upgraded it to a new Alpine unit with bluetooth and USB. Really happy with it now. Obviously not the most "plug n' play" option, but I like how it turned out.

I am running Focal speakers in the front doors 5 1/4” as well as 6x9’s in the back and a 10” ported subwoofer by JL Audio along with an Amp, headunit is the Pioneer single DIN flip up screen. The front door speakers need about a 1/4” or so spacer and fit perfect in the stock front door speaker hole. At the time of the picture of the front door speaker I hadn’t installed the speaker grill but gives you an idea that the speaker sits flush with the door panel.

Looks great gentleman. I was keeping all original including radio. Just need to fix the one crack in the dash pad.

Where did you talon for your constant 12 on your inclinometer? Did you use one of the forum diagrams for wiring?

For the constant I eneded up running a new wire from the back of the fuse box. I pulled out the fuse box located a consant lead.. can’t remember which one.. and soldered on a connection. And everything is working well
