What is the recomended replacement interval for plugs and wires?

Thanks

No owner's manual or FSM?? Shame on you.

Call here to get either or both:

When she starts running rough.

I don't recall for certain, but it seems like the manual said 60,000. I'm not sure though. It could have just as easily said 120,000.

Anyway, bump for the answer.

You must be responding to the wrong thread, because that's not the question.

You really consider it to not be relevant at all to remind him (and everyone) that that information can be found in both manuals?

Bump.

No, because that could be the response for just about any tech question anybody ever asked. It's like saying "search" only now they have to wait for their book to arrive before they find out the answer.

If you don't know the answer, that's fine: don't post. His question wasn't "where, other than on this board, can I find out the service interval for the plugs and wires?" It was "What is the service interval for the plugs and wires?" The answer to that question is not "well, if you bought the book, you'd know."

Yes I have them both.
Owners manual says spark plugs every 30k but does not mention d-cap or wires.
Plus I trust the folks on the forum more than books.

No way is it the same as that.

Is it the tone that bothered you? Looking back, it was probably a little snide. Suppose I had posted the following instead; would you still say not posting would be preferable?

"Hi,

I don't have that info. right in front of me, but in case nobody posts up the answer, don't forget it should be in both your owner's manual and the FSM. Also, in case you lost your owner's manual, here's where you can call to get one.

Anyway, consider this a bump for ya.

Cheers,

Curtis"

Disclaimer: I don't know either.

The spark plugs are 30k.

My plug wires are original at 115k. I have a new set and an intention to swap out, but she's been running fine. The point is, Toyota wires are good and last a long time. Mine will be changed soon.

Good on ya!

Yeah, I actually noticed that after I dug my FSM out...:hhmm:

I doubt now that there is a written recommended replacement interval. I s'pose it'd be interesting to find out whether folks here change wires every time they do the plugs, or...

Plus I trust the folks on the forum more than books.

Blasphemy! Those aren't just "books", those are our bibles. :D

I replaced my plugs/wires/cap/rotor all at the same time.

Yeah, that would have been better.

I'm not a mechanic or have worked on land cruisers, but in my honda civic which has 210k miles (and still runs better and looks better than most that have 60k on them ) I notice a increase in power even when changed in intervals as short as 15k.

Not ony that its a great way to see what cylenders are burning clean or are depositing crap on the plugs etc.

The munufacturer may say they last x amount of miles but I know from experience they stop working optimally after less than 15k.

I changed the wires at 145k. After looking at the rubber vacuum hoses and how they had become cracked, I figured the wires had been in the same enviroment for the same amount of time. So I changed them. Don't foget to buy di-electric grease and use it so that when you have to pull the wires off the plugs again, they will come off alot easier and save physical wear and tear.

You are talking about the plugs, I'm guessing.

You would not notice a power gain from changing the wires every 15k. That would be psychological.

As Drew stated, sparks at 30k(copper core orginals), I personally run the Iridiums and they have done 90 k just fine. As for the wires, I usually change them out every 10 years to be safe(unless I contribute the problem to them) nothing last for ever. As for cap and rotor, I will have to look later, but I believe that older 93-94 service interval is 45k, which is strange, like 1 1/2 time the spark plug life. But these caps can go longer. I think with the cap and rotor, do a check and see if any cracks or spark tracing is going on, this may be the best indicator of when to replace. With my customers, I dont mess around, 45k for the cap and rotor(cap and rotors are cheap). later Robbie

I measured my 10 year old wires after replacing them, and found that they were all within spec resistance-wise.
