Will a 285/75R16 fit in the spare tire area of a LX470? I'm having those tires installed now and the guy said he doesn't think it'll fit...But to be honest he seems a little shadey.

Anyone have that size under there? I imagine it's a pretty popular size. It's a
Goodyear MT/R w/Kevlar tire.

Thanks )

Yes, a 285 will fit. Have one under there for a number of years.

Even a 295 will fit but will be snug.

Thanks. The guy at the tire shop claims it won't fit, but he claimed that before he even tried. I'll have him sign something to that effect and when I shove it under there complain to tire rack about their 'recommended' installer.

He seemed kinda shady anyway.. Tried to sell me tires even though I had 5 new tires sitting behind him I just ordered.. What's the odds I'm really going to buy some A/T's? Give me a break.

My brand new BFG AT 295/75/16 fit just fine.

the proof is in the pudding. or in this case, the photo :)

295's fit - technically... but they either hang down way low, or if you do the mid to raise it, it's a pain to ever get down again due to winch-hole alignment issues and sidewall interference...

My 295/75/16 fit but only barely. Like an 1/8" between it and the panhard rod. Taking the trailer hitch off fixes it.

I raised mine up .75" and it hasn't affeced the winch-hole alignment. You can probably lift it about 1" before you run into trouble.

Hmm.. so i went under there with a friend, and we tried to install the spare. The tread of the tire was running into the tow hitch, am I doing something wrong?

Trying to attach a pic of what I'm talking about to this post, wish me luck!

Tires vary in size. What tire is that? I ran a bfg atko 295/75-16 in that location for years. There are also some variance in tow hitches. Which hitch do you have?

That's a
Goodyear MT/R w/Kevlar

In

285/75R16

Measured with a tape measure, kind of sloppy like.. It's
about 33 inches. I think the metric calculator put it
around 32.8 or something. Reading online it said this
tire is "true to size". Not sure if most tires run
small or not?

As to which hitch I have, I'll go look for identifying
markings :) I wasn't aware there was any variance.

I had a 295/70R18 up under there. IIRC you have to flip one of the brackets to do that. IMO, the limiting factor isn't diameter, it's weight and clearance. That winch is only designed for a factory load. My tire setup is probably 1.8x the weight. Every time I hit a hard bump I winced, afraid that it was going to come off. Also it becomes the lowest point in the center of the vehicle from a departure angle standpoint. This was all before I got the rear bumper and moved it up.

Hey hijacking the thread a bit but I was thinking about putting some Michelin LTX at/2 shoes on my rig but they only come in a 265/70/16 realistically what will this do to my rig... ( besides lower gas mpg, and drop my rig a bit).

I love my LTX's but want a bit more traction.

Thx all

Michelin LTX M/S is what I currently have. But I ski a lot and so I would like a bit more traction without going to a full off-road tire.

But... My question was will the 265 noticeably affect my ride

I can't speak to the make/model of tire requested but I'm running BFG AT/KO in 265/75/16 and have zero complaints. They run well on the street, are smooth and stable at highway speeds, and do quite well in winter conditions. Aside from being 1.8% smaller in diameter than stock (30.61" vs 31.16"), you should be fine. However, I would rather choose a tire slightly LARGER in diameter than stock. Your odometer will thank you later :D

It's warrantee says 40k, how many miles have your got on a set? They sidewall looks pretty beefy which is good
