Hey guys, currently on a roadtrip to LA and am currently stuck in San Antonio. Got off the highway and a CEL kicked on, code P1121, limp mode and we hobbled over to a mexican food joint. No dealerships are open as it’s New Years day..

Anyone local have the TPS (P/N?) or APPS (22060-50011) they’d be willing to sell?

Anyone have any solutions for a temp fix until we can get the part?

Loose connector? Wiggle.

Check all your connections first. TPS if faulty will need to be replaced. APPS is often 'intermittent'. Turn vehicle off for a few minutes and see if it re-sets.

When mine went out it seems like it was completely dead. It's not though, if the APPS fails, you can force the throttle open slightly by flooring it. It's a little scary to do the first time, but you quickly get used to it. It's not something you'd want to drive for any long distance, but it'll let you limp along with partial throttle. I'd be incredibly careful in parking lots though in case the APPS comes back to life and you go from barely limping to full throttle in an instant...

In my case It also remedied itself every time I simply restarted the car.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, cleared the code and it seems to be working for now. Will see if a dealership along the way has the part and I’ll swap the APPS when we find it

The thing with the APPS...(IF that is the problem) is it can (and often is) intermittent. You might have the problem again and it might never happen again. Your TPS can cause similar problems. Probably best to replace both if yours are originals. TPS should be (89452-30140) for your unit.

APPS installation thread:
An illustrated guide to replacing your APPS - Part 1

Both of these items are not bad things to have as spares along with a 'coil pack' or two. These are all parts that can be replaced out 'in the field'. So if either one (APPS or TPS) does not immediately solve your problem...you haven't thrown money away.

TPS is 8942 30140 (for early 100 series cruisers).
Both the APPS and TPS fit 01-02 Sequoia, 00-02 Tundra, 98-00 GS 400 and SC 400.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Quick update, after I cleared the code I have yet to have another issue. Continued on with the trip. We made it about halfway to Houston when the batt light clicked on, once it got dark and the headlights came on, the ABS light came on (low voltage)... turns out the alternator went bad. After a nights rest at Hotel del Walmart... I got the alt changed in the parking lot the next day. It was lightly snowing, 20 degrees, and windy. It was not a fun morning. Got everything working and back on the road though. Issue free since.

Yep, two things that will play havoc with electrical components of your vehicle are:

1. Low voltage (causes can be many).
2. Poor ground(s).......can cause the most bizarre and hard to diagnose issues.

Glad you got it sorted out. Doesn't sound like it was much fun.

Great info for future reference. Good on you returning to update the thread! That sucks about the parking lot alternator swap. Not a fun job on the 100.

No joke, just after the ABS light came on, my alpine CDE-143BT headunit started doing some funky stuff...volume going up and down AND displaying the changing volume level on the display, real funky.

Especially with the weather, getting the connector off the back was pretty tough with cold fingers.

The best part of the whole trip was that neither of us fought, at all, the entire week... even through the sub-freezing "camp out" in the parking lot :) She was super understanding and even helped get the alternator out, she's a keeper.

BTW @suprarx7nut I have one of your key fobs that I got as an xmas gift... I love it :)

^^^^^^^^ Yeah, don't put yourselves through that again. I have family in San Antonio that would have gladly put you up for the night.

I'm sure pretty much anywhere you go (except maybe certain Yankee States) ;) you could find someone here willing to help you out. Just let us know.

Good follow up on the issue, it might prove useful to someone else to know about it sometime in the future.

Hey I appreciate the offer, I should definitely have reached out to get some help. thankfully we pulled off at the one walmart that also has a movie theater in the parking lot, so we managed to escape the weather for a bit

Eek, I can imagine. She sounds like a keeper indeed making it through that without a fight!

I'm glad you got a fob shell and glad you love it! Spread the word about 'em if an opportunity presents itself and I'll be in your debt. If you break down in Northern CO at any point, shoot me a PM. As @flintknapper said, there are plenty of us happy to help another out! :)

Just curious, did you have the seat heater on when the battery light turned on? I carry extra alternator brush kit just in case.
