I didnt find the answer to my question.

Will a factory third member with cable lockers from another 1988 62 fit my 62 (no lockers) axle housings or will i have to switch the entire axles?

I might have found me a rusted to hell 62 with lockers who i would like to add to my rig ;)

thanks
haffi

The 3rd member is the same .. the only issue, ut I'm not sure rear, sure in front is about the long splines axles that you need ..

but if you get 3rd member with axles .. no problem both axle housing are the same.

Haffi, the first question we need to ask you is do you have a full floater axle in the rear? If you have a semi floater, you will need the entire rear housing where as your front housing can be used as is.

The following applies especially if you already have a full floater rear axle. As Tapage said, you will need a couple of the inner axles from the donor truck. The left (long) side from the front and the right (short) side from the rear. You will also need the two longer diff retaining studs from the donor housing, the ones right above and below the locker mechanism. These are longer than the non-locker equipped ones.

Another essential part from the donor is the entire cable shifter mechanism. You'll never forgive yourself if you leave any of those behind. Other parts that would be a bonus would be the wire harness connecting the differential sensors to the main harness and the dash warning indicator light cluster under the tach as yours is not likely to have the locker warning light.

You also may want to pay attention as to the right rear shock absorber mounting as it may be different in the locker equipped 62 vs. the non locker models.

thanks

Thanks to you all.

I havent contacted the owner of the other cruiser but i will in in the nex few days so I dont know the price for it.

But hopefully I can buy that car ad use it as donator.

I´m not going to use the handles or the cable system. I´m going to use small air jacks to activate and deactivate the lockers.

I have moved the rear axle 30 cm back (with coil spring suspension) so the cables aren´t long enough.
Also there wont be any roof for the arms and all that stuff under the car because I´m planning on adding an aux fuel tank there.

I am using my ac pump as a air compressor, using a old scuba-diver bottle and a pressure switch for the ac-pump. So have plenty of on-board air to control the lockers.

A very nice cruiser, Haffi. Are you in Iceland? Are you planning to use 44" tires? Cables from a 75 series should be long enough if you had wanted to use the original system, but pneumatic cylinders would be cool. Post up some pictures when you are done :)

The Terrano seats look like they belong there.

;)

Hi and thanks for your comments.

Yes I am in Iceland and no I am not planning on using 44" tires. Not now at least (to expensive) but they would fit on the rear but some modifications would be needed in the front (cut and weld).

Lockers and coil springs in the front first ;)

Hopefully I will be able to buy these lockers....

The terrano seats were couple of hours work, but now they look like the have always been there and they are comfortable too...
