We are in the worse place to and worst time. In between Springfield and Blooming ton Illinois. I have three broken wheel studs. Getting towed to Bloomington to the Walmart there. Is there anybody around that can help A) Find some wheel studs and B) A place that can get them installed?

We drove up here to pick up a pop up we bought and really need to get back home tomorrow (Monday the 4th). Kids have school and football games on Tuesday.

This is a hail marry. For anyone in the area.

Guys at MT Scheile in St Louis are awesome.... big yota guys not sure if this helps at all....

Are the broken wheel studs are in the front or the rear? If it is rear, you can easily install those if you know how to remove the rear brake wheel/caliper. Sorry, I can guide you on how to do that while staying in the south.

They are in the back. I think the plan is going to have to wait til the dealership service dept is open. No place in town has the studs.

Easy job!
You think you can do it? You'll need a 17 mm wrench (to remove the caliper) and a decent hammer to push-out the broken stud. A jackstand is good to keep the truck secure while you are doing it.

Not sure of what TLCA club is in the area, but post up in their clubhouse section of Mud, maybe someone can help out local. You'll also get more visibility in chat as opposed to just 100 owners.

How's the studs break? I've heard of singles from over tightening and then breaking them trying to get them off, but haven't heard of 3 at once.

I'm guessing that the two broke originally because the lug nuts were loose...like all of them. I guess my impact wrench doesn't torque as hard as it should. This is all a huge mess!

I am pretty sure that I can do it myself. I thought the studs were threaded all the way through. Looking at it, it doesn't look like a very hard job other than the dust cover being in the way.

The rear dust cover is too far from the studs. You can simply tap the broken one out and then insert the new stud (just try to get the splines on the stud lined up with the hub). Then place an inside diameter bigger nut (like washers) to the stud and attach the lug nut to the new stud. Turn the lug nut clock-wise to get the stud on to the hub. That is it.

I'm pretty sure the wheel holes are screwed up as well. So I'm going to drop the spare and use that to get home after I get this is all sorted out.

Did you make it home, is that the wheel that had a flat on your way home from HIH7?

Update as of now. Sears auto center says they can probably get the studs in and on today! If not today, then tomorrow. The wife and kids have rented a car and will drive it home. I'm waiting on a tow over to Sears right now. Good thing is, insurance is paying for the tow jobs.

It the opposite wheel. Word of caution...never trust and impact wrench!

Spoke too soon...stock LX wheels require a special lug nut that fits down in the wider hole of the wheel. They Have checked everywhere it so far, no luck. I'm just hanging out in my new camper in the Walmart parking lot. Probably for another night.

Yes the cruiser has 22 mm lug nuts as opposed to all other toyota's 21 mm.

I use the torque wrench to do the wheels after using a torque wrench and then use my trusty hands to double check the setting.

Surprised ADVANCE Auto, NAPA, or other parts stores don't have them, pretty common studs.

Fwiw- for the future, order a few extra from the dealer and keep in the truck.

Yeah spare studs and lug nuts...who would have ever thought that would be a thing that is needed. The thing is, I have had a couple break off on this truck before HIH. I think the back wheel studs are a little corroded than usual since this truck was used to put a boat into salt water by the PO. The frame is good back there, but everything else is pretty bad.

seems to be a common thing, I have had left rear studs break. I may be carrying a few spare studs and lugs from now on.
