Hey All,
Just trying to verify something. I've got an 83 fj60 with 89 fj62 axels under it. I remember reading some where that you don't need to do a cut and turn if you have a 62 because of the driveshaft angles being different than a 60. Anyone know of this? Is this true? Are the axels set up differently on 62 than a 60 series or does it have something to do with the automatic transmission setback further and different driveshaft lengths than a 60 series? I know that everyone preaches that a cut and turn must be done. I'm just nervous about doing it. I'm just trying to find answers to help me along. Thanks ahead of time for everyones help.

the reason they say it is not needed on a 62 is because of the length of the transmission pushes the transfercase back far enough that the angles are not that bad. That being said, most still do a cut and turn on a 62 to get the caster to about 4 degrees so that the larger tires track better. There are a few threads on cut and turn and looks like using a 3 inch pipe cutter and going slow should make it easy. Other option is to get a predone unit from proffits or one of the many shops that sell them already done.

Additioinally, the pinion angle is set a bit higher on the 62.
The cut and turn is not that hard. I promise. The biggest deal is getting the housing cut to the right depth to where it can be turned without going through the housing.
I tried the pipe cutter and abandoned it for an angle grinder which I found worked better.
If youre that worried about it, there are folks who do em for a reasonable price...cruiseroutfitters, 4x4labs, proffits. theyre set up and ready to bolt in. Getting the spring perch on the PS was harder to do than the C and T.

Another SOA question.....
Do I have to completly disasemble the axels to do a C&T? Or just pull apart the out side? What about the seals and stuff? Will the welding ruin them?

Oil seals in the tube ends should be changed, also a perfect time to service or change the knuckle bearings.
