IMO a good start would be making sure the engine is within manufactures specifications, the Toyota work shop manual should give specs for oil pressure, compression and leak down.

I am thinking about buying one of these turbo's for my truck... I can have one at my door for 300 ish!

I drive exactly as you discribe, rarely if ever shifting above 3000 rpm. My question is this, how is the build holding up? What about driving on a 100kmph road, if I'm sitting slightly above 3000 for an extended period is that a recipe for disaster?

I plan to drive my truck across Canada, hence my interest and questions!

This is working awesome for me ! I regularly drive in the 100-120 comfortably at 2500 range on the highway and my shifting to get up long slow hills has all but disappeared . I would recommend this for a healthy 3B for sure . In fact mr.momo is just finishing his .
