Cdan,
That's what I am thinking also with the rear seat, seams like you could organize quite a bit of gear with out the seat. Yours seems to be the "One" everyone is after! Full option. Maybe this is a sign to just keep the cruiser fund put a way for a while longer and hold out for another "One" if you will. But I think no matter what I go with it will be better then no 74!

Just looking at all the options, the least possible is sourcing a 1hz, the 73, and all the bits to make it all happen, probably more fun but not in the cards right now. Your photoessay is inspiring!

I kept my rear seat in and simply folded it up because the BJ74 is such a chick magnet and I didn't want to limit my options.

I can hear Dan's head swelling up all the way from the east coast. : )

if you want a turbo, buy one with a turbo. Get the h55. FF is a must, cable lockers you might pay a premium for.

my project(s), round deux, broke a non us gear for the other cruiser tcase shutting down that rebuild cold.
the 74 is getting the 76 coil chassis complete, ultra low mile R151, my old hdt, and a lhd conversion
the 74 had, 4 leaf stock frame, h55 w marks gears, hdt, and the cable lockers...rhd.

I work away and every time I return I find it difficult not to smile whenever I jump in my truck. It pulls like a freight train, the vision is great, it handles well and it's just a blast to drive. It's a black '88 BJ74, H55, FF, rear seat, elec windows, PTO, central locking and grey interior w/silver FRP top that I got at 92 000km. Got 130 000km now. But if I could offer one piece of advice it's to treat the decision as a business transaction rather than an emotional one. That's where I went wrong and I paid over and above what I should have. Just be honest with yourself. Do you need a FF rear axle? Do you need a turbo? Cable lockers? Once you know what you actually need vs. what you want the decision becomes clear IMO. Maybe you do need a turbo, I don't know. I reckon go stock as a rock, no mods, low miles. Add the rest if you ever need to. Good luck!

When you do choose a rig what you like, no doubt you will add to it, take from it,
drive it, look at it, repair it, write about it, service it, read about it, talk about it, and spend on it and do it all again in cycles, because that's half the fun, Remember the yota slogan "Oh what a feeling"

I'll take any of ya'lls rear fold-and-tumble rear seats off your hands... The one I got with mine is a rusted hunk of junk that musta sat outside somewhere for ages.... :(

Rick - I'd like to hear/know more about your LJ seats... Direct bolt-in fit, front and rear?

Do you have plans to travel to ABQ in the near future?

Copy. Well if you do find yourself comming up contact me a little ahead of time and I can drive mine to work.

I did it!

Auto, 239xxxKm, lockers, split rear seat, and a touch of rust in one of the fenders. Overall just what I was looking for, it's not in perfect condition or resorted but that's not what I was after the big thing is that it will fill all my needs, and be a good start to my next project. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Picked it up from Land Cruisers Direct and will post more details when it makes it to NM and I get back to check it out!

that's the "front porch". A great place for folks to sit and chat........
