So I think the Michelin Defender is the perfect all-terrain tire... (For most of us) (14 Viewers)

The RCTIP (Recommended Cold* Tire Inflation Pressure) for those ISO-Metric 285/60R18 120H XL tires on a 2018 LC200 is 33psi F/R.

No secret - it's printed on the Driver's Side door jamb... ;) (Not actually meant for the tire in question, but it calcs out the same, and it will be easy to remember.)

*According to Toyota:

Tire Pressure vs. Tire Temperature

Tire temperature is dependent on “cold” tire pressure, driving distance and speed, ambient temperature and road surface temperature. As the temperature of the tire changes, air in the tire expands and contracts, changing the tire’s air pressure. The cold tire pressure for all Toyota models will vary and will need to be adjusted accordingly.

“Cold” tire pressure, as shown on the tire pressure label on our vehicles, is generally considered to be the pressure in a tire that has not been driven in the past 4 hours and has been parked outdoors.

PHEW! Many thanks! I know about the nameplate but these are different tires than OEM. I kept seeing posts of 38, 40 psi etc... and did what I do very well and that's worry! :cheers:

It's easy to understand your confusion. Too many posts on these forums are not specific when discussing tire size, tire pressure, even what vehicle they are being used on.

The differences between P-Metric, ISO-Metric (SL or XL), LT-Metric, and Floatation LT are often lost; even though each has a potentially very different RCTIP.

Just a general (friendly) reminder to all concerned, if one clearly states tire specifications (e.g. ISO-Metric 285/60R18 120H XL) and the vehicle on which the tire will be mounted (i.e. LC200 vs. LX570) it will go a long way to avoid confusion.

So... you did the right thing to ask - never hurts to be sure. :cheers:

Well at least i presented the salient facts so an answer could be given without 20 questions LOL!

Well I know now and KNOWLEDGE IS POWAH BABY!!! 💪💪💪

Thanks again!

You're very welcome - always glad to help.

I went OEM size in XL. Curious what you guys are running for tire pressure. Ran these on my Gen 3 4R. 2 sets of tires for 140,000 miles. These tires rule. This is not an off road set up but a road warrior for the family.

OEM size & spec means the pressure on the door jamb of 33psi.

I occasionally go higher (@35psi) especially when towing to firm up the ride.

Here are the stock-size (285/50/20) defenders on OEM rims.

Well...

You have no vehicle listed in your sig, and you have blocked your profile, so...

I have to ask - what vehicle are you putting them on. (I don't have crystal balls)

@gaijin what’s the rctip for a set of 285/65/R18 116T SL ltx m/s2? TIA

Also...

I find no such tire available on the Michelin web site.

I do, however, find a Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 ISO-Metric 285/65R18 116T XL (MSPN 49085). Is that the tire you are asking about?

Just wanted to post an updated LTX review after running these hard in Moab, UT. Traction not as good at the AT/MT crowd on slick rocks, but these performed amazingly well on rough trails like Top of the world. Still ugly, still great on and off road. Sidewalls are still in great condition and no chunking.

DT's website lists them as SL, but check your sidewall--I bet they're XL.

I’ll check. Thanks for this. If XL, is 38 psi the ticket? DT inflated them to 39ish iirc

@gaijin wouldn't it be 38 PSI?

If the tires are indeed the XL version as indicated on the Michelin web site, then yes, the RCTIP should be 38psi. But the owner of the tires insisted they are SL, so if they are indeed an SL version, then 33psi is what is recommended.

The only one who can determine what tires they have is the owner of the tires.

@gasman4u , is there any indication on the sidewall of the tire that they are "XL" or "REINFORCED"???

Yes. If your tires are indeed XL, then the RCTIP is 38psi.

Let us know.

@36J594 @gaijin good grief. Never did I think it’d take this many posts, but here we are. Thanks again to you both. Apparently they’re “extra load” after all. 38 psi it is. Sidewall pic below.
