So how many miles can you get out of a full tank of gas on your 60?

Hey everyone,
I know that the timing is not set properly at the moment on my 87 fj60 w/241,600 miles so I assume that the gas milage is suffering (The vacc advance is bad on the dist). But no matter how the truck is running, it seems that I can only get about 200 miles to a full tank of gas (give or take a few miles). IS that about what everyone else is getting?

for the stock tank, sounds about right. While people say they get 15-17 mpg on a smogged 2F, I think the majority of us only get 12, maybe 13.

I get between 240-280 depending on how deep I put my foot into it.

I have gotten as high as 300, but typical is 250-275. Not too bad since it's mostly city, and always at 5000+ feet.

I always get about 150-175 in the city, on a flat level long freeway I can squeeze about 300+ if I take it easy and I'm lucky with no head wind

I could probably get 800km (480mi) if I pushed it.

260 - 300 miles depending on how I drive. Running a stock engine, Jim C carb, 2-1/2" exhaust, 35" tires, 4.56:1 gears.

But as Doc stated, Not Enough!

There is some error in a lot of people's odometer with the different gears and tires. I get about 250 miles on a tank.

with 33's, 2.5" lift, roof rack, bumpers, etc....200 miles/tank. i have a performance exhaust, jimC carb rebuild, and i still get 200. i say funk it. -sean

I measured mine with a GPS.
31" tires put my speedo about 1% low.
And my odometer about 9% low.

Then when your odometer says 200 it is actually 250-265 miles.

I think the odometer and speedometer would be off by the same amount.

Next time you are on the highway with mile markers. See what your odometer says after 10 mile markers. I calculated it to show 7.7-8.0 miles instead of 10 miles if you were on stock tires again or recalibrated the speedo cable.

I get a constant 10 mpg in the city with my specific driving style.

On my last trip, I had 30-35 miles city and 140 miles highway and I got 15.5 mpg. Oh yeah, that includes about 20 min of donuts with the first snow and a fuel line leak. That equates to 368.9 miles out of my tank theoritically. Good game.

BTW, that's with a freshly rebuilt carb, new NGKs, new air, oil and fuel filters.

I just drove 280 freeway miles this weekend and still had 1/4 tank left. This was in temps that were around 25 and i had to do a bit of slowing and starting due to snow and ice. When it is warmer out and I am doing straight freeway holding 60-70 i can get anywhere from 300 to 400 miles out of one tank. It all depends on hills wind etc. Best ever was 426......majority was downhill and i made no stops at all becuse my slave cyl was out. It was pretty epic and I know she was running on fumes when i pulled into the station.
