2006 Black Sport/KDSS/ML/Nav

89xxx Miles, WA state one owner vehicle. Looks spotless and I love the black/dark grey/black interior.

90k mile service done and ready to roll, they're respraying the rear bumper to get out some parking lot rubs. Should be picking up early next week.

Just some crappy dealer pics for now:

nice! I always love to see more Mud members in the GX470

Any plans for it?

Man I wish ours was a grey/black interior, very nice truck!

It will be a very slow build, for the time being I have a 45min commute but if I can chop that down to something reasonable then I'll start collecting parts. I can see airbag removal/add coils and mild lift w/tires in the reasonably near future.

Eventually I'd love to declad everything and get bumpers/sliders but it would have to not be primary transportation when that happens.

Just got it home finally today, had about 6 hours of driving time. SO glad I spent the time to track down a KDSS equipped one as it really is a night and day difference in handling.

Now I just have to figure out the best way to interface my iphone... have read a bit about putting 5th gen nav into Lexus with 4th gen but it may be out of my depth. I actually think the ML sound is pretty damn good. I have a newer Pioneer nav in my current vehicle and losing the high res screen and excellent ipod control is going to suck but in between the VAIS unit and the coastal lockpick I think I can make this work.

I have a GROM in. It does work quite well if you want to keep the stock head unit. It does glitch out every now and then (my blackberry is probably the cause of that) but otherwise no issues. The glitch is that the BT doesn't connect to my phone every time.

Thanks for the review! When it fails to connect, are you able to turn the key while driving (reset electronics) and will it pair on the reboot?

yeah. I think it is my fault though...I added a cablejive aux power adapter to the ipad since I have a gen3 and GROM won't charge it. Having the extra power source seems to confuse the heck out of it.

Is that the new "lightning connector"? Doesn't provide enough juice for the new devices or what? I have an iphone5 that uses the lightning cable, might be in the same boat, good to know ahead of time...

Edit: looks like the iphone uses 1/2 the current for charging as the new ipads, so I should still be good there.

God I wish the 5th gen nav was plug and play.

Starting to think that the best solution will be the VAIS simple audio input kit and to use my iphone directly to pick what to play.
