I read on another forum that a small block chevy will be lighter that the straight 6. doesnt sound right but is this true? that would be cool if itrs true

It's true. I noticed the difference after rolling both engines around my garage during a swap.

I know they are not the same but is the fitment about the same for a conversion in an fj40 and 60/62? just wonderin because this may be an option now. I was thinkin that the cruisers would be nose heavy with the v8 but i guess not.

I read somewhere the 350 was 250# lighter than the 2F. Not sure if it really is though.

250# sound high, I recall a 320sbc being compared with a stock 2F and there beign a 40-70# weight difference. I think I read in an old toyota trails mag.

forgot which 4X4 magazine it was in, I can find it, but I read the 250# difference and remember it accurately. Again, however, I'm reading what somebody else may or may not have researched correctly.

IMO: it makes sense if you've ever looked at a 2F next to a SBC 350.

I always heard there was a couple of hundred pounds difference between a 350 and a 2f, but the specs I saw listed a 350 at 550lbs and the 2f at 282kg. If my math is right, thats about 70lbs difference. I would assume these weights are for the engine alone and don't include any alternators, pumps, etc.

How about this for a chart. I found it with a google search.

Chevy big block V8 685

Chevy 427 ZL-1 550

A 2F is freakin' heavy. I can lift a bare chevy block and carry it around. I don't think I could lift a 2F block without help. I know I can't trust a 2F on an engine stand like I can with a csb, but part of that is leverage from the length.

I don't know about the actual engine weight but the total weight change of a TLC with SBC is over 200 lbs. to the lighter side. Usually, with stock springs, it will raise the rig about 1/2". A/2o uowe. tls Cloa rst.

In my Advance Adapter Toyota conversion book it says a small black chevy IS 200 or 250 lbs. lighter than the Toyota. Can't remember exactly which though.

I've always heard that the F/2F is around 700# and a SBC is around 500. About a 200# difference in most cases. The big ol inline 6 blocks are just plain big.
