I have an LTI 350 in my cruiser that used to be mated to a stock 3 speed and stock transfer case via a Downey 3 speed bell housing with a Downey Chevota clutch kit. I am now upgrading to a sm465/orion combo. the Chevota clutch kit is not that old and I am unsure if I need to replace it or if it will work with the sm465. Anyone have any input? I believe I am running the stock shift fork also- will that need upgraded?

i would think the clutch should be compatible . but you will need a chevy clutch shift fork and a chevy T.O bearing to fit a chevy bellhousing . ,the toyota T.O. bearing will fit to sloppy on the front nose cone of the chevy tranny and not adapt onto the chevy clutch fork . . some one else should have more input here

P.S. is it the downey one piece aluminum bellhousing or an adapter plate
this could make a difference

I don't think the downey three speed bellhousing will bolt up to the sm465. It's bolt pattern is for the toyota trans and if I remember correctly is longer than a stock gm bellhousing. You need a chev bell. Chev engine, chev bell, chev trans. I could be mistaken, but I don't think so

You are right about the needing the chevy bellhousing. They are pretty easy to find at the junk yard. Search SM 465 and you will find a pretty good write up on it. I will search for it as well and post it if I find it.

Everyone above is correct. You can still use our Chevota clutch, but will need to change to a Chevy bellhousing, shift fork, and T.O. bearing.
