i was wondering if there are any sliders that I can put on my 93 cruiser without cutting or having to take off my stock front mud flaps, I want some nice heavy duty protection/appearance like Hanna sliders or Slee sliders?

Ken Hanna's earlier slider design stops right behind the flap. That is the setup I have. I believe he could still make a set like that. The other option would be to take a set of Ken's or Christo's and cut the front back a bit to clear the flap.

thanks Dan, i just barely bought my front mud flaps from toyota after i took off my running boards, so I really don't want to hack them right now(still nice and pretty :) ) i will drop Hanna and e-mail and see what he says,

If you off road where sliders are necessary than the mud flats left full length are a hazard for getting ripped off and in the process tearing up the flares also.

Also, if the sliders do not extend underneath the mudflaps, than the portion of the rocker panel above the flaps are subject to the kind of rock damage you are buying sliders to prevent.

If you are interested I can post a clever way to determine how to cut the mud flaps to fit around the slider and avoid unecessary hacking. I would need to take some pictures to illustrate.

Your mudflaps can look pretty even with cutting girly man :flipoff2:

rich if you want to post I am interested,

This is what most are doing with their sliders I'd imagine...

My mudflaps are on the vehicle most of the times. I take them off when wheeling but put them back on for on road driving. Now I wish I didn't shorten them since they seem to throw more road debris on the lower part of the vehicle.

Rich I disagree. On the rear, the mudflaps do seem to be a real PITA when wheeling but in the front they seem to tuck and fold out of the way. My sliders are really short. They weren't designed for an 80, but they were free. Mine start and 1" or 2" back from the mudflap. I've not done any body damage and I've put my rig up againsts some nasty rocks. My rear quarter panel did not fair as well in a couple of these situations. When running bigger tires the slider actually can be further away from the mudflap because in most situations a rock will not lodge right between the tire and the slider. It would have to be a very sharp breakover angle on the rock. People with smaller tires might have more of an issue with this. I like having mudflaps because in the winter when I step out onto the slider my pants don't get all dirty. maybe I'm just a :princess: But that is my reason for keeping my flaps.

I've wheeled over more than a few rock piles with front and rear flaps and not had any problems. The risk is still there. One time they can tuck and fold getting pinned between a rock and the slider or the tire and if that happens, they will come off and probably bring a bit of the flare with them. I've not experienced this personally, but others have.

Going forward a gap a the front of the slider isn't as bad, but in reverse there is more risk of dropping off down on a rock or ledge.

A short slider is way better than no slider, but I wouldn't go short just to avoid having to cut a pair of mudflaps.

With respect to keeping mud and such off, full length flaps are good to have. Its all a trade off.

I personally think the "customized" flap looks fine, if you really wanted to dress them up, you could get some rubberized edge welting and cover the cut. No matter what they look like though, they will look better than a smashed rocker panel. JMHO! HTH
