Sliders..but I need mudflaps. Suggestions? (1 Viewer)

I want to buy sliders for my '97 but I need to have some type of front mudflap protection.

Details...

-Cost up to $1000 is fine.

-I don't know of a good local 'custom' slider builder.

-I would like to buy bolt-on sliders.


My vehicle is used on-road 90% of the time but when I do go off-road the trails are pretty nasty so I want the sliders so I don't crush the $$rockers$$.

I live in Canada so my truck spends a great deal of time driving through snow, slush, rain and gravel; without mudflaps the rockers will get beat to sh*t in no time and the rush will follow soon after , not to mention the side of the truck gets dirty so fast with the mudflaps removed.

At the moment Slee and Metal Tech are at the top of my list. Has anyone successfully integrated mudflaps, OEM or aftermarket, with either of these sliders?

I have MT sliders with mudflaps. It's an easy mod, just cut a small rectangle in the mudflap.

Provided that you get the sliders with the side rails, you could also see if whomever you purchase them from could weld in some filler plates into the openings to give you some added rocker protection from rocks and such. I have seen some with Dimple died holes in them. I kinda like it myself and am thinking about something similar when I finally get sliders.

I have the Slee bolt on Sliders and and stock non running board mud flaps. A little trimming and a perfect fit.

I cut some regular running board contoured flap/ends to allow for the sliders. Would be easy to add a flat sheet. Never bothered.

Where did you source the "welting". I have needed this in several mods, but never took the time to research a source....I was thinking electrical supply? Any help is appreciated.

I sourced mine local, but Spector (SOR) sells it by the foot.

The stock mud flaps from 91-92 trucks w/o steps are your best bet, and sure as hell won't cost a grand. I picked some up in anticipation of shedding my steps for about $50 for the pair off of the classified parts or parting out section (can't remember, exactly). The edging in an earlier post is very common, and can be gotten at most auto parts stores in bulk or by the foot. I got some of this to protect my spare when I did the spare tire clearance mod a while back.

*91 & 92 mud flaps will not work on your 97. (I stand corrected, 91 & 92 flaps can be modified to work on 93+ ~ see S.CarolinaFZJ80 post #23)

Your best bet would be to purchase 93 - 97 factory mud flaps w/ flares & w/o boards, then trim to fit the slider of your choice.

OR

Purchase Non-USA factory 93 -97 "pre-trimmed" mud flaps w/ flares & w/ boards, not to be confused with the end caps we got here (USA).

I installed the bump it off road factory looking 2x6 step slider. The factory front flap did not quite fit so I found a set of stock mud flaps from my old 87 Toyota pickup and trimed them to fit and bolted them on in some of the stock holes. We used them on the Trans Labrador Highway trip last summer 500 miles of gravel/drit road with great luck. Plus they flex out of the way nicely.

I got factory flaps with cutouts and had Slee put on their Step Sliders. I think they did a little trimming of the opening in the front flaps. Total was more like $1200 or so.
