I am preparing to lift the 80. (initially for 33" tires):steer:
I have read a lot, researched some and asked around reguarding the best lift for the 80. I am growing impatient and considering ordering slee 4". if anyone has any suggestions, preferences, recommendations or advice for better, stronger, faster, cheaper, or easier i am all ears (or eyes in this case):hmm:

Then once it arrives, I will be looking for someone who might have expierence for info reguarding tools, equip advice etc. before I go at it. I am a beginner shade tree mechenick with basic tools. :wrench:

thanks in advance Aj:beer:

Slee 4" lift is not for the faint of heart or pocket book! I'm hoping that you're buying the complete kit including a front double cardon driveshaft? Once you go pass the magic 3" height, a can of worms is opened up so be absolutely sure that you want to go this route. Otherwise go for a 2.5" lift and have a smooth driving vehicle.

Get the "heavy" version.

Ali is right, the Slee 4 inch is a great lift and fits 35s well, but it requires some other mods as well that may not be inexpensive.

If your are really only going to run 33's, then an OME heavy will do very well for you and is basically plug and play.

I have saved a few dollars for the complete kit. The truck will be used for moderate wheeling and crawling. The idea is to go big enough to not have to redo anything suspension wise if I go to 35s.
Alia- what is this can of worms you speak of?
Drew- what are the other mods I may need?
Thanks for entertaining my dumb questions aj

Mods---Caster correction is an issue, Longer shocks, adjustable pan hards are needed, maybe even rear upper adjustable links. The Slee kit is excellent and a good way to go.

If you really want to run 35s, then you will be much happier if you regear to 4.88s.

Even though I run a Slee 4 inch lift and like it, the best bang for the buck by far is the OME Heavy lift at 2 1/2 inches with 33 inch tires.

OME 2.5 is just springs and shocks right?

Yes thats my eventual plan is 35s w gears. Thats why i was thinking of the slee4. the 33s will be for now until i catch up to my learning curve.

If you would like to compare both lifts side by side, come up to the house and see both vehicles - one with slee 4" and one with OME 2.5". You're correct, the 2.5" lift is just shocks and springs.

Sounds like you'll be going to 35" so the Slee 4" might be just the ticket for you. Chasing down driveline vibrations will become a favorite activity of yours after you go with this lift.

well, I might take you up on that offer. I just need to find a day off. I would love to get trail ready w/ the ome. i could use the rest of my little cruiser fund for sliders. But I was all set to just drop the $$ and lift it once. I guess i wont write that check to slee off road yet. Ill be in touch if I find a day off to see your vehicles. Are you available during the week?

... and on weekends... and on holidays... :grinpimp:

Sweet! all my free time goes to helping others with landscaping or moving. I need some PM on the 80. What do you charge by the hour?

Back to the subject again? AJ, you can take mine for a run if you want. I only have about 2" lift with 33" tires. I have to get new shocks though.

:meh: Sorry, this is 80 talk. I have nothing to offer or say. I'm staying out of it, but if it was me .....

Bonfire,
I have the OME 3+ kit and 285's on my truck, i like it alot.
MAF sells the kit with the drop brackets for the control arms for caster correction, the kit is relatively cheap too.
You can drive mine too if you want.

Yes, I'm strongly considering that line of work seeing as I have no income coming in right now. The local dealers are charging somewhere north of $100/hour, so I'm thinking $40/hour (negotiable of course based on the type of projects)?

James,
It's just so happens that I'll be in SoCal on 8/16 and 8/17. Get your parts ready! :D
