Doesn’t look like much compared to yesterday’s pics, but the rear floor patch is done! I also made new support brackets that are spot welded to the tub where the rear doors hang off because the threads were all stripped. Need to finish a little grinding on the inside of each corner then put in the rear sill; maybe tomorrow. Then flip the tub over and start stripping all that undercoating, yay...

Rear sill is in and I bolted up the rear doors and tire carrier for test fitting and it all lines up! Need to get the rear sill cover on and that’s all finished. A few buddies are coming over tomorrow to help flip it over so I can get the rest of the undercoating off the bottom and finish filling holes.

I really need to clean my shop up.

Nice job on the rear sill! I need to start on mine soon and your pics will be very helpful. I also have a 71' Im working on, but in much rougher shape than yours...you had a good canvas to start with! What part of Western Washington are you in? I was born in Port Angeles/ Sequim area but now live near Republic WA. I also bought my 71' in eastern Washington, but wish it had been in a climate controlled shop instead of a dairy farm lol!

I’m in Stanwood Washington. I know republic quite well. Good luck on yours! I have a 67 also that’s not near as nice that will probably be next on the list so this one is a good confidence builder.

Started scraping undercoating today. Using a combination of a 5in1 hand scraper, oscillating multi tool with scraper blade and a wire cup on a grinder. Tried a scraping blade on my reciprocating saw but every now and then it catches and really kicks back. Slow going but it’s going.

And how about this hole inside rear door on drivers side?

Thats the hole for the wire that feeds the license plate lamp.

Doesn’t look much different from the pics, but more scraping. Worked all weekend so only could manage about 20-30 minutes per day (5 minutes each time I went to the shop for a beer and my Costco finally got a good IPA back in). Tonight was cocktails after work during Sunday night football so there’s nothing getting done. Off tomorrow, so it may be ambitious, but I’m hoping to be done with scraping all the undercoating by the afternoon when my wife says I need to help with kids and be present in general. For some reason she doesn’t want me in the shop when HER in laws come to visit.
Also, ordered all of my paint and primer yesterday. Getting cold here so testing different heater options in my shop so I can maintain 65 degrees.

I used a mapp gas torch to help loosen the rubber bedliner the PO used on my 40.

Looms like you're doing quite well anyhow.

Success! Undercoating is all gone except a small spot in the passenger wheel well. I had tried using heat but even with a heat gun it would just smear instead of scrape. Going to go over it all with a wire wheel on grinder then I’ll sandblast wherever I can’t get to before primer and paint.
Noticed a few of the cage nuts for the trans cover were all jacked up or gone so ordered a pack of those. Maybe later tonight or tomorrow I’ll get filling on the rest of these holes and get the rear sill cover on.

I wish my tub looked as beautiful. I'm *still* waiting on RealSteelCruisers to send me the replacement driver and passenger floor pans.

I have no illusions: this was a pretty lucky find.

All the non factory holes that I could get to from the underside are welded and ground, rear sill cover is on. Got some new cage nuts to weld in for the trans cover where some got stripped off. Started sandblasting the underside today. Hoping to be all done with the underside this week and flip it over to finish grinding the holes from the top, blast it, then flip it upside down one last time to prime and paint the underside. Having analysis paralysis on what paint gun to buy. Used really cheap ones in the past with decent luck but figure it’s time I buy a halfway decent gun.

Though my 4 year old was really convincing in her arguments for pink body and purple seats, wheels and motor... I’m excited that my Spring Green paint showed up today! Still a week or two before I think I’ll get color on it but I’ve got everything now when I’m ready.

I’m blasting my tub myself and it’s going well except for the weather. I need another hour or so and I’ll be completely blasted and I think ready for paint (on the tub anyhow). Hoping to get epoxy primer all on and color on the underside this weekend. In the meantime, I finished getting the new cage nuts for the trans tunnel welded in, all extra PO holes are filled and smoothed out, patches a section of old slide hammer repair work on the rocker and my manual showed up from the online printer.

Not very tired so after the wife and kids went to bed I figured I’d strip the doors apart. Pics are just of passenger side but they are both completely disassembled. They both look similar; little surface rust at the bottoms but nothing through or flaky. Even the weatherstrip was still pliable and came off in one piece. A couple screws needed vice grips to get them to break free as someone had obviously started trying to free them with a non-JIS before.
