So I have temporarily taken the cruiser off the road due to finances. I am thinking I will get it back on come late winter. Should I run it for about a half an hour every month or so?

Is it not drivable? If it is, I would at least run it around the block to work the bearings and joints.

Sorry to hear about your problem!

Ken

If it's going to be exposed to really cold temps, you might want to go and get one of those block heater dipsticks. My friend has used them on his cars back home and swears by them.

Romer it is still drivable mechanically, just took it off of insurance to save some bucks (trying to kill the CC debt for good). So it would not really be legal to drive it around, no. Also, I need to fix the replace the clutch and dont know how long that will take me so I figured why pay insurance if not driven. Maybe you should come over and help me put the clutch in.

If you don't live in a clustered, high traffic neighborhood, you need to drive it. If even for 5 minutes. Insurance or not. I'd hook the battery to a charger occassionally as well. Depending on how long you intend to let it sit, and how the weather is, you could be in for some issues if you don't take care of it.

If the clutch is keeping it from being driveable, then don't chance it.

i hear ya denvercruiser, on the not driving it thing.

i would never want to take a chance with drivin sans insurance. no matter what the situation that is just a bonehead move to me

a couple times up and down the driveway or around the back of the yard wouldn't hurt, but i think that just crankin it and lettin it run everyonce in a while should do it fine

put some stabil in the gas tank to keep the gas fresh, wont hurt any thing to drive with it in the gas. also keep changing the oil every 3 months

fill the tank, its better than an aditive. I do both in my boat that sits all winter.

if it has a hardtop and the interior is something you like, get a dehumidifier, the Goldon Rods are good and so are the dish type, also toss a Dry Z Air inside. I run this is some of my Cruisers and boat.

If there is no way you can drive it even around the block then yes run it for a while every few weeks.

i would jack it up off the ground and block the axles to keep the weight off the wheelbearings.

If its drivable, don't jack it up. Driving it in and out of the garage would not violate any laws and would keep things in good shape. Movement is a lot better for the bearings, engine, tranny and such then anything else.

Remember - you need insurance to drive on the highway but not to go crawling. You can tow it to an offroad area once a month and have a ball for the sake of maintenance. I've done this before with no hassles. Besides it is a good excuse to load up the cooler and go out for a day. ;)

As whack as this idea sounds - I think its your best bet. Tow it to a big grass field or something and just rip around for an hour or go wheeling or something.
