Does anyone utilize a small storage box that can be secured in the trunk of your 200? I usually carry a gallon of water + snow chains when I’m traveling in the mountains and currently they just slide around the back of my HE. I know there are storage units that can be built in but I’m looking for something smaller that I can secure, but also move around if I need to back the trunk with gear.

Anyone use anything like this?

“The tackle box company” Plano released some storage boxes a while back that seemed like the perfect size and construction for this use. I grabbed a 13x15x24 model and used a simple ratchet strap with the rearmost tiedowns to hold the stuff that lives in my cruiser full-time..

List of stuff:
-Noco GB70 lithium jump pack
-Windshield crack repair kit (for immediate use before it spreads)
-ARB recovery strap
-Red lifting sling for attaching above to axles/sliders/other rough objects if needed
-Hitch to soft shackle adapter
-Various soft and hard shackles
-2” tow ball & adapter
-Work gloves

If I need all of the storage of the cargo area this thing comes out in 15 seconds, and goes back in in about 30 when I’m done.

Edit: plus, its cheap and available at any orange big box hardware store (as much as I hate endorsing those.)

I bought one of those big Plano boxes (in black) when we first got my wife's 200 so I could stash jumper cables, a small tool kit, extra water, blankets, chargers, and it's been back there ever since. It doesn't slide around on the factory cargo area rubber mat, and the color makes it almost invisible from outside against the black interior. I think they're in the $30 range. I fact, this experience inspired me to use the bigger size (in green) on my 100 series, and they have dozens of trips on them without any issues. I think the bigger ones are $40ish.

I've used Rubbermaid Action Packers for 20+ years but I like the Plano boxes better, they seal better and are super sturdy.

I am waiting for this bag to be delivered this week.

It should be just the right size to fit behind the second row seats, in the cargo area.

I use the Duluth Trading Company bag posted further up for daily driving. Holds all the emergency and flat repair essentials with room to spare for my needs. I switch out to Plano/Yeti boxes for trips. I need to bite the bullet and just get some arb drawers installed.

Bag arrived in 12 days. Surprisingly well built, especially at the ~$50CAD price point. As expected, great fit between the wheel wells, tucked away against the back of the 2nd row seats.

I still have my custom, narrow drawer installed and may keep it for now (and not use the bag) because it makes storing and tying down the kid's stroller 10x easier, but I'm definitely tempted to remove it and use the bag for all my gear instead.

Here are the larger green ones, I don't have a picture of the black box in the 200 but I will grab one shortly!

I have several of those Plano boxes that used to ride in the back of my work truck. They’re great.

I don’t know how they make them now, but the older versions had latches on both ends and one side, with the other side being permanently hinged. Those were even better than tge 6-latch version.

Now they generally have one large latch on each end with no hinges.

There was a thread on the topic of gear etc before that I liked but I am happy if we get some good storage shots of stuff like this here now. I know someone must have that thread bookmarked somewhere but eh. Fresh 🧵

I use a Duluth bag and seat back system that was recommended on sale some time ago. It’s tied down to the third row hooks.

Inside I keep like 2 boxes of condoms, lots of ammunition, the entire Harry Potter book series if I get bored, a Jason mask and crowbar for good measure.

Show me yours!

Yeah, they’re still good. I just liked being able to open one side to get something out and not have the whole thing pop off.

It’s a little thing, though. The overall usefulness of the trunk can’t be argued with.

Why not just buy from Amazon; there are tons of these storage thingies for cheap!

Yall don’t just have random $hit sliding around all the time?

I like the plank box that can fit behind the 3rd row when erected.
