We're looking for some clever ideas to store your handguns and long guns in the FJ40. We've seen some pictures of overhead racks such as the Sky-Bar, which seems to be about the best option for an overhead long gun rack, but we're still looking for an easy-accessible place to store and secure a handgun. The FJ40 is easy to break into, so theft prevention is a goal too. Thanks!

Short of putting a plate across the rear wheel wells with a lockable hinged door flap accessible when the rear doors are open, there ain't a whole lot you can do for long arms.

Handguns stay on my person; if I have to go inside a post office or court house then they go in the Tuffy console. Long guns just go in the back. I don't carry them all that often but when I do I don't worry about it much where I live - we rarely if ever lock our cars.

instead of creating lockboxes for long rifles i've just shortened the compacted length of the rifles to fit in regularly available means.
the best security is invisibility.

i'd considered building a flat top cargo box that blends in with the wheel wheels. build it out of wood or metal reinforced with metal banding. the only access into the box would be from the rear that also locks up and is also blocked from view by the rear doors, which would have an extra lock in place.
I'd also thought about padlocking each trigger guard of the firearm down to the body, but it is prob way overkill. It would be easier to just steal the vehicle, which is insanely easy to do anyway.

the only way that really works is for an armed person to stay in the vehicle with the arms. its cheap and it works.
I wouldn't do any kind of long term storage of a long arm unless you want to buy something like the gunvaults found in police vehicles for the trunks.

pistols are easy to lock up and conceal. lockbox under the front seat or a tuffy/dashman.

Have you seen the Springtail Solutions stuff? They make a rifle scarab for the back of a 40. It is on my wish list.

Ditto... ccw permit.

I use my rig for hunting, and needed a way to carry scoped rifles securely yet keep them handy. I ordered a set of ATV gun rack mounts on-line ( I don't remember where or what brand ) and used them to build this with ordinary pipe. The only points of attachment are the seat mounts (not stock in my rig) and the roll bar. These gun mounts were designed to be used horizontally, but work very well for me. The buttstock of the rifles rests on the lower horizontal bar, and the guns are put in "scopes rearward". These mounts have "fingers" inside the cradles and absolutely hold the guns steady without banging them around, even on rough terrain.

Not a good vehicle to store guns in. IMHO

Like said maybe on a hunting trip or outdoor trip but as far as just to have them. Bad idea. Way to easy to break into

Sportsmans guide has a voodoo scabord which i can slide a shootgun or lever rifle in has d hook which i fasten to roll bar . Hunting violation to shoot from truck in mo

I found a truck vault on Craigslist for 125.00 to put in the FJ. It works well for pistols and an AR or other short carbine. It also works well for my tools and anything else that I want to secure. I usually throw a pad on top for the dog. I'll try and post a few pics.
