I have the typical hood and roof clear-coat flake

I'm not going to spend several thousands on a new paint

Let me see what your Maaco-type paint jobs.

No, I don't want to see your rattle can or plasti-dip liner stuff.

Show me the $700 job.

In my opinion, don't do maaco. Waist of money, their products are too cheap. Go buy a harbor freight DA, a cheap paint gun, and do it yourself. All u do is sand smooth the paint u have on your rig, clean it when done sanding, mask, and shoot with some quality paint. If u just want to do the hood and roof just do that.

I came to the conclusion pretty quick that I was not going to do it myself (opportunity, knowledge, resources, patience, etc..) and I'd hate to put a bunch of money into a paint job on a vehicle that may or may not be mine at any moment depending on what breaks next. I figure I can do it again when/if needed until I decide I don't want to any longer.

That's the nicest looking Maaco job I've seen. Here is mine painted by maaco. I've since sold it...

I got a quote from Maaco to paint a Ford Ranger I wanted to sell. I painted it myself with decent results. I sold the truck and used the proceeds to fund the purchase of my 80. You can do this. Most of the time is in prep.

Nailing it twice, that's nice....

I did a total Maaco paint job and deflared, having them weld the holes and apply bedliner. Really happy with it!

I wonder if MAACO would actually accept a vehicle that has already been prepped.

Probably not would be my guess.
Well, that just sucks....I am sure myself and the rest of us could do a significantly better job then them.
