So this winter we are wanting to install new shackles, leafs, and shocks. At that point to I just go ahead and pull the tub and paint the frame? Not a restoration I just want to get to the rust before it eats the frame. What would y'all do? tub is already pretty much gone.
 
Money, skills and time are my yardsticks. Is it really worth the effort?
Back in the day I rebuilt air rifles, sometimes people would spend way than it was worth because grandpa owned or gave them the rifle sometimes both.
This thing is just a fun toy me and my dad drive and I work on. It seems like an easy cab to pull and it wouldn’t be a restoration just paint the frame, new body mounts and all that and drive it for the next 20 years. By no means a restoration
 
They aren’t hard to pull but you will have wiring, brake and fuel lines as well as steering column to contend with. But good excuse for new body mount bushings if nothing else!
 
They're easy to tear apart. You and your dad won't be driving it around for a long time.
 
And if you drink beer and keep thinking you need to do ‘one more thing’, you’ll end up here🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just tear the damn thing down. You could have had it done by now.

But seriously, it is pretty gratifying to have it down to the frame.
 
They aren’t hard to pull but you will have wiring, brake and fuel lines as well as steering column to contend with. But good excuse for new body mount bushings if nothing else!
I've already done the master so I'd leave it connected the only thing is we don't have a lift so getting it off the frame could be a challenge
 
I didn’t either. I used 4x4’s, an engine lift,

a floor jack and saw horses to lift it. Hardest part was clearing the 33” tall tires. I figured if the Egyptians could build a pyramid, I could lift a tub. Once I had the frame rolled out I slid the saw horses in and worked on the tub.

we don't have a cage but there's no way I'm starting the tub. I know that will turn into a 5 year project. ON a side note what do you have to do to get the gauges out? mine has tabs and I cant get it out of the dash and I don't want to break it.
 
Two screws and a speedometer cable that unscrews off the back. Just lift up and out. Mine is a ‘67 so there may be a difference in yours? I thought they were all similar.
Disconnect the battery.
 
1st you need to disconnect the battery. The ammeter wires are exposed on the back and you don't want them to ground out. Disconnect the speedo. Tilt the top towards you then up and out. B4 reinstalling I trimmed the the 2 lower tabs a little shorter for future removal.

There are a lot of folks that have replaced the body mounts without completely removing the tub. They jack up 1 side then the other.
