I have a 2003 LX470 with about 270k on the clock. I am preparing to replace the transmission fluid and filter, and while I have the pan down was considering dropping the valve body to install the following upgrades/wear item replacements:

I spoke with a gentleman at Transgo to ask if the $200 shift kit is recommended for a perfectly functioning transmission, and he said that it wouldn't be a bad idea given the mileage.

How much good would it really do, and much would it really extend the life of the trans?

What's everyone else's experience? Should I just replace the fluid & filter and leave well enough alone, or do the full treatment? Or just do the Boost Valve and Accumulator upgrades?

If your transmission currently has no issues and you don't use the transmission hard (towing, racing, aggressive driving), I'd leave it alone. My truck has 342K and while it doesn't shift like new, I'd be far more worried that any mods would kill it, rather than making it last longer. I try not to flog it too hard, in spite of the elevation where I live. I would also worry that a shift kit would feel like one (snappy shifts) that would scare off any potential purchasers down the road.

I've never even heard of these upgrades / replacement parts you mentioned and also haven't ever seen reference to them on the 100 series forums but I could be mistaken..

If you're looking for another opinion I would remove those parts from your wish list and don't mess with your perfectly operating Toyota transmission.... The life blood of the transmission is the fluid. If you keep up with your maintenance and keep the fluids clean there is never a need to start replacing stuff.. If your fluid is burnt, you've been having some shift issues, or some other issues then I might have a different outlook..... I'm all for trying to extend the life of stuff but that can be done simply with proper fluid flushes / maintenance. Keep everything as OEM as possible

There really is no need to drop the pan on these. The “filter” is not really a filter and doesn’t require changing. I’d exchange all 12 quarts and not just a drain and fill. I also agree with the advice above to leave it alone.
