Should I give up trying find Tundra steel wheels?

If I could get Michelin 255/100/16 tires (36") or wanted to run 255/85R16 tires (33"), I'd try and source these 16x6.5 LC105 wheels. They are for the 105 but I think the offset/rim width combination could work fine on the 100.

Or the 16" version of the 18-hole tundra rims that came on the 79 series. Yooper runs them on his pickup...

IIRC, the lot of steel wheels Profitts were selling were split rim style.

Nope, they had some of the non-split ones. I had e-mailed them about them. They also DID have the splits as well.

From 2 years ago...

Rob,

Thanks for contacting Proffitt’s Cruisers. Yes, we can source those OEM 79 rims. They are $155 each + shipping. Plan on $25-$35 each for shipping depending on where they have to be shipped to.

I don’t know for sure but I think these will work on your 100 series. The OEM 79 steel split rims work on a 100 so these probably will too.

We have quite a few of the split rims in stock. As an alternative, we can have the split rims made into non-split rims if you like. Cost would be about the same as the OEM rims.

Thanks,
John

Got a set. They're on their way... from Texas. They really are damn rare here in the south east. But, it'll be a while before I use them. I'm guessing I've got 9 months + left on the BFGs. In the meantime, I'll get the wheels powder coated, new tires (same as current) mounted, lugs...

Sweet. Now for the other weight shocker... For same-same width and overall diameter, the 18" tires are actually heavier than their 16" counterparts. In addition to the 13 extra pounds per wheel... But they look sweet, no doubt!

Yep, the added weight is a factor. But, then it's a 5,600 lb truck that will never get good gas mileage (or 23 mpg). On that note, weight matters only for acceleration and deceleration. Okay, turning too. Cruising on the highway, it'd take some fancy lab to find a difference in the mileage between the 18" alloys, and 18" steelies. If I were a mail man, I'd probably sweat it. But then, if the steel wheels really made that much of a difference... why do all the FedEx, UPS, USPS trucks ride the steelies ;)

Well, that was a quick two years. Okay, it did take while (!) to find a set of Tundra steel wheels, But not quite two years. I had them shipped to ACC, who in turn, media blasted them and powder coated them gray... then they went back in the boxes for six months while I waited 'til I could justify new tires.

All mounted up as of last week:

You do what you have to do. Those look very nice though and (maybe?) worth the wait.

Old thread, I know but I'm looking for a set of these steel wheels now. I'm in GA and will consider shipping them if anyone has a line on some but would love to find some local.

Thanks for looking.

Theres no sets local to you? Im kinda shocked because everytime I get on craigslist to look for tundra alloys (In Oklahoma), I can only ever find steelies. We have them all day for $200-300.

None here. I think one of the previous posters is correct that these wheels just weren't sold here in the southeast.

@DirtDawg... it's a regional thing. In the S.E., the base Tundras get the 5-point star steel wheels. So, despite a ton of takeoffs for sale, they're not the 18-hole steel wheels...

... like these. I hunted via Craigslist - looking in Atlanta and four or five other cities - for a year and saw none. My set came from TX. They went straight to ACC for powder... then off to Discount Tire for rubber.

@Manhattan my bad, I should have read the thread. Thought we were talking about the 5 star steelies. Ive only seen one set of the 18-hole and they were pretty beat up. Ill keep my eyes open though.
