I’m considering buying an ’89 fj62. It’s extremely clean but has a cracked block. Please excuse my mechanical ignorance but how difficult might it be to find a good block. Can any suggest a ball-park estimate on a rebuild if I found a new block. I did check out cruiserparts.net and they advertise a used block. Would that be a good route? I would really appreciate any suggestions.

How cheap is the truck?

Well, the for-sale sign said $1500, but I spoke with the seller’s father-in-law today and he was pretty sure he is willing to take 1000 for it now. Still waiting to hear back from seller As I mentioned, it is extremely clean, looking nearly new (no rust, no dents, good paint, good rubber, only some wear on seat fabric).

My thoughts were that with a cracked block it better be around a $1000 with a clean body. Sounds like your on track. If you cant do it yourself you will spend around $3500 on a engine rebuild. Less if you R&R it yourself

I know these are different times, but in the old days guys were just waiting for something to go wrong with their 6 cyl. to justify putting in a V8. A good running 6 cyl. is just a good running 6 cyl., but if that's all the further the bank account will stretch, then so be it!!! A truely valuable FJ 62 is one with a smooth running late model fuel injected muscle engine in it. Just a thought!!!!!!

Fixed it for ya! :)

No reason to believe there's not a tranny problem? That's a hell of alot bigger deal in the long run than a cracked block....engines are available pretty readily, due to trannys that took a crap....500 tops.
