Should a 8 year stagnant 100 series scare me off? Looking for advise from you experts

Hi Mud. I’m total newbie to 100 series but i am looking seriously at purchasing one. I just love cruisers, I own a 400,000 mile 80 series so I know how damn reliable these things are.

I found a dessert bronze 2000 for sale with 157,000 miles, the interior is in incredible condition and the exterior as well. Asking $12,500. There is a long maintenance history dating all the way to 2017. But in 2017 it was sold at auction and was not driven at all until late 2024 when it was sold again. The dealer replaced the tires because they said the previous ones had dry rot. The odometer history verifies that it hasn’t been driven since 2017.

Should this spook me? Or no problem for these things? Like I said, the car looks to be visually in fantastic condition.

I think being nearly 5 hours away, you'd need more photos and at the very least a cold start video of it once the fuel line is fixed, to properly access a purchase. At the moment i dont think its a sound idea given the limited info provided. Also, some foam is missing from the PCV valve area (Not indicitive of an issue) but i would expect other areas of the car could have had some rodent issues.

Not sure what your definition of minimal rust is but from judging by those pictures it surely wouldn't be mine. There is a lot of rust on this truck. Most of it has been sprayed over which is VERY obvious.

What the others said. They painted over a lot of thick rust underneath. That’s a $1,500 truck on a good day.

Do not buy this truck. As stated it is very evident that the truck is rusty. From the need to fix a fuel line to the painted flaky undercarriage. this means the areas that really rust are REALLY rusty. Dont chase miles, chase a beautiful rust free truck. You will not be happy spending any money on a truck that will melt away. Ive done it, and the second one was rust free from a different state. Plenty of great trucks out there and this is not one of them!

The insulation from the fire wall has been removed. Small patch remains on the right side.

That’s a good truck for like $800 to buy it and run it into the ground

I love rusty cruisers, but they are supposed to be cheap for a reason. This one is not priced right. The mileage and history of this cruiser wouldn't bother me one bit after I did fluids and a timing belt.
