I have a 98 with about 173K which I believe is on original shocks and being as I live on gravel roads, since buying it about 3-4mths ago the ride seems to bounce a little on certain bumps mostly in the rear (kinda like the compression isnt doing as good a job as it should)....

I have been reading a bit about shocks.... but I guess I am more confused now....

not sure but I want a good solid strut that retains decent all round ride... being that I will never really be a real off road rig....

any help or suggestions would be great!!!
 
Im gonna say either OEM or bilstein......cause thats what most of the other guys will say
 
I went with Bilsteins all the way around and couldn't be happier. There is a full set of oem shocks on mpls clist for cheap. Good luck. Skol.

Edit- Fronts only on clist.

Bilstein for me 2 years ago and wouldn't go back...
 
I did not want OME but wanted a longer shock than Bilstein offered in the USA so I ordered Ironman shocks which are relatively new in the US... They feel very good on road and off but also good over speed bumps etc... Very happy with them so far... Next shocks for me will likely be some higher end shocks like Foxes, Kings or something along those lines...
 
Search the forum and you will find the general consensus is Bilstein HD's. they eliminate the roll and nose dive much better than OEM, however are a little stiffer. I would never go back to OEM after bilstein's. Get ready for some work on the rear shocks.

I am not too worried about the shocks.. I live in MN and worked in teh industry for over 5yrs...

thanks for the input so far... I had noticed a lot of people liked the Bilsteins...

Just curious as the Factory ones have held for 170K, will the Bilsteins manage that.. hehe

what a nice setup. won't help you much with the right rear shock, though. Patience is what you will need for it.
 
I'm on stock Springs for now, but need shocks. Will Bilsteins still work if I end up putting on a 1.5" OME lift?
 
Use the Hole saw method for the rear shocks. Much quicker and less painful.

Even for an experienced tech with the right tools it's the smart way to go.
 
Drillinging a hole through the floor so you can access the shock from inside the cargo area. Do a search as there are pictures of it in a thread.

I took some pictures of it...

Took me around 2 hrs.. TBH 2.5hrs cause my left arm got tired on the Pass/Rear taking the nut off... been a while since full time wrenching...
