Paint

all that crap in the air? it's my filtration system.... gravity. I jokingly call it my "floor refurbishment system"

and I need to buy more paint - more importantly, more activator.... ah well, about the only thing I "must" paint is the window frame and the grill shell.... and I have enough paint for those two things.

no clearcoat. I'm painting this over several weeks - temp and humidity changes the gloss level... I had thoughts of matte-clearing it, but now after seeing the paint (and knowing it's going to lighten), I'm not going to bother.

Better picture

moving the air tank caused problems... which still aren't solved even after cutting this out

but moving forward, body mounts..

then onto taking doors apart so they can get sandblasted

picture so I remember how it goes back together

though, there is going to be a bit of fabrication here - remember when I said the wing-window hit the roll bar? the fix is a one-piece window, which requires combining a late door and and an early door

anyway, thanks for looking

It's because we want to see it at SeattleCruiserHeads meetings.

Not to distract from the build, but I just stumbled on that page the other day..... I wasn't sure if it was still active since much of the information on that site is a few years old with the exception of the 'next meeting' section (but I also know that a car club I was a big part of had similar site update issues)

Seems to be pretty specific to 40's :p

The club mostly uses Google Groups now. The website is dated and not really updated anymore for a variety of reasons.

Now back to our scheduled programming. Hey SuperBuickGuy, are you done yet?

after getting to be pulled out twice, my H3 got a chance to shine :)
very stuck kids

I'm impressed they got as far as they did without a shovel, decent tires, a jack, the 10 essentials, or pretty much anything they should have had... ah well, as I related to my friends during the after-wheeling-pizza; but for the grace of God there go I... I'd done much the same 30 years ago... fun to be on the winching end rather then the winched end.

After some fun back to the grind
move air tank

like this

rear brakes, along with launch control (aka hill holder), plumbed

and the body is now bolted on for good

at least until the next guy rebuilds it from the ground up...

there's the issue - you can't buff flat paint. This is why I was so concerned about the color of the under-layers. It gets scratched, it gets scratched. The only time I'll worry about it is if it scratches to bare metal - then I'll simply brush a bit of paint in the hole. When it comes time to sell, I'll simply repaint the outside....

in the vein of the painting thing - it would cost a bunch to have someone paint this.... I already have the materials and tools, so it cost me less than $100 to paint the rig... just one of the billions of advantages of doing it yourself - and as I said before, it's okay to do it wrong because you're doing it and you will get it right eventually...

so back to updates
Today was a day off (ish) - since I work for myself, days off look like days working for someone else except longer, fewer vacations, and the worry about making the bills.... but it's totally worth it if you can swing it ;)

first today was run out to a wrecking yard to get an air cleaner

what's really cool is I got a K&N Air filter with the cleaner... there will be mods necessary, but it's the important, first piece, of a snorkel.

assembly

dents successfully covered :)

I sprung a leak, well, I got to practice wound care after I managed to slice into the top of my thumb (through gloves)... fortunately, I was able to staunch the flow long enough so that I could finish and snap that last picture... I laugh, it seems all of my advance degrees have been mostly self-serving... my latest advance degree is Mountain-Oriented 1st aid. Basically, it's training so that if you are leading a group in the wilderness, and something bad happens, you're able to provide sufficient 1st aid up to the point where surgery would be required (no, we can't stab people, but we can sure splint the hell out of them or bind wounds )
