I have been having these Shift Plates for several years now. I have 4 speed oem, 4 speed twin stick, 5 speed with oem transfer case, 5 speed with twin stick, 3 speed with the FD pull out and 3 speed without the FD pull out.

I lost my printer. I am in the process of changing printers. I am at a cross road though. I can print them just like the oem did with sublimation printing. Or I can have them made with the new technology of printing and have them laser etched on aluminum. I am told the image is crisper, clearer and will hold up better in the elements we cruiser heads put them through. I haven't seen one yet, I am just going by what the vendors are telling me. The ones I have been printing the old style are good quality as I cant tell the difference between my old one that came off my 76 FJ40 to the ones I had printed before.

My first thought was yes go with the new clearer technology. But as I thought about it, we are restoring these rigs to be like OEM. So even though the laser etch might be better looking its not the way the oem made them. Please give me your all thoughts. Yes the Laser is more expensive at a cost of 30% more. Is it worth it? Please let me know your thoughts.

I don't see one for my 4L60E?!

And AA twin sticks. :)

So, how much for the stock vs the laser printed version?

edit: stock 4 speed '77 FJ40

While your at why not one with the extra shifter for the Fairey overdrive.

Plan on getting a new plaque if I ever get my hands on a five speed but the 83 model when the five speed started the plaque was replaced with a sticker with instructions and just the transfer case shift pattern.

I'd go for the laser etched version. Would a GM SM420/AA Rockbox/AA twin stick pattern be possible?

The set up fees for each plate type is $50. Plus another $35 per plate type didnt understand that cost. They are wuoting me 50 plates at a time. So i am looking at different alternatives for vendors. Not happy with my choices so far.

One of the vendors I am looking at may be willing to do one of a kind shift plates. Take and print out one of the above pictures that comes closest to what you want mark it up with a red ink pen. Take a picture of it with your phone and send it to me and I will look into seeing what I can do with it. My last printer had a minimum of 4 plates as thats how many she had to print at one time. I did have a guy from the Philippines want one made for a Mini Delta Landcruiser. I had never heard of a mini delta. He used the plate as a radio cover plate. I tried to upload it as a pdf file dont know if it will work or not. Yes I think if you double click on the pdf file it will open.

send me a marked up version of one of the plates and I will see if I can get one design and printed. Once I nail down a printer I will have a better idea of the prices.

Looks like the stock, single transfer case lever to me.

:meh:
Ok Poser I value your opinion. Which should I be doing the original way oem did them with Sublimation printing or the new style laser etching which is going to be extra crisp on the edges. The oem style on edges is just slightly blurred or feathered as it is a printing operation rather than a machining operation which is what laser will be. I was thinking most are trying to rebuild these to oem so they would want the imperfections that a printing style would give rather tan the discrete image of a laser.

Any one with an opinion is welcome also to reply.
