Hello!
I've got a noise from the front (I believe, difficult to place) of my engine. I have disconnected fan belt, but the sound didn't disappear. It's like a shh sound, its not boiling, i've checked pcv and other vacuum hoses with no luck. The sound is coming and going. Anyone had similar issues? Here's a video but the sound is dificult to hear...

Couldn't make out any sh sound but check to see it the throw out bearings is free and not spinning with engine running and clutch disengaged.
That can make a ssh sound.
You should be able to spin the TOB with your fingers with clutch out.

Not sure if I heard what you are talking about, but what I heard sounded like air (vacuum?) escaping from someplace. Do you have something that is air/vacuum operated as part of the peripherals on the motor?

Don

I don’t hear the shh sound on my end. Can you hear the shh when you listen to your video? Perhaps the sound is masked/interrupted by your hand creating sound as you move the phone around and the sound of crunching as you move. If you could hold the phone still maybe someone will recognize the sound. Also might try cupping your hand near the microphone to gather more sound.

Are you thinking the sound is metal on metal?

Just throwing this out there....sounds like the bearings in the water pump could be going bad?

rick, he said right up front he disconnected the fan belt.

@espensen , try turning one ear to it and at least see if you can determine right side, left side, front of engine.

looks like a 72-73 engine. what are you running for a carb? Aftermarket carbs with open element cleaners often expose the shh of the air fuel mixture running down the ventures.

Get a piece of garden hose or similar about three feet long.
Make sure it is not plugged and put one end to your ear then move the other end around the engine while it is running and see it you can pin-point the sound that way.
