Picked up the new girl this morning (1985 FJ60 for those who don't remember) from the shipper and she runs great. A few surprises, but nothing too major. Mainly some paint issues, but oh well.

I did discover the horn and the radio didn't work. Pulled the wheel, raised that brass ring with some washers and did some cleaning. Now both the side horn buttons work but that bottom one is still being difficult. At least I can get it inspected now. Big thanks to this forum for already helping me out.

Aftermarket radio is still a mystery. Haven't gone too deep into that rabbit hole, but I'm not seeing power to it even though the seller claimed it was working fine. Didn't notice a fuse for the radio in the box but thinking that could be the culprit. Is it labeled something other than "radio" or "accessory" or something else equally obvious?

Anyway, you guys should be having a meetup soon, no? Love to bring her by and see what everything thinks.

If that is an aftermarket radio, the fuse might be in-line, not in the box. Trace the power.

Yeah, found some inline fuses under the hood. All seemed fine. Can't get the bastard radio to release from the DIN sleeve without fancy tools so I can't check the fuse on the back of the unit.

Might all be a moot point though. Plan to put something in there to control the iPod. This one doesn't have that functionality.

Congrats...if that is all the surprises on a sight unseen purchase then count yourself lucky.
My first cruiser, which was a 1985 fj60 arrived with a broken crankshaft pulley. Costly lesson!

For your stereo, I would suggest looking at the Scions from around 2008. I don't have the exact model number, but if you google "tacoma or 4runner scion stereo" you should probably pull up some hits. There's a write up in 4wd Toyota about the swap.
I put one in my Taco, and it was a big improvement. Some of them just have AUX inputs, but most of them now control the ipod. They are made by Pioneer.
