\Having timing belt, water pump, plugs replaced, should I but parts at Toyota or Lexus dealer?

Spark plugs - yes, buy from the dealership. However going with an Aisin timing belt kit will more than likely save you a lot of money versus buying those components from the dealership.

Cruiser Outfitters (@cruiseroutfit) has the timing belt/water pump kit in stock. Not sure what the dealership sells it for, but they have it for $297 and they ship fast.

That is a diesel variant timing belt kit, the 2UZ kit is $232 and includes (4) additional parts not found in most timing belt kits.

Update, may have over paid for all my parts but had to get the work done when the Toyota mechanic had an opening and after the drive to SoCal wanted somebody I trusted working on my 2004 Lexus 470. Had the following work done, water pump, timing belt and tensioner, cam seals etc., plugs, valve cover gaskets and radiator. Tried to cross reference and shop for parts. But no time on our visit to SoCal. Called the Toyota dealer and they said water pump, tensioners and seals were discontinued by Toyota and I had to go to the Lexus dealer and get a complete parts list and they at the Toyota dealer would try to cross reference. Well with a time constraint I went to the local Lexus dealer for all the parts including all fluids (diff, radiator, transmission engine oil etc.) Well over $2600 in parts alone delivered to my mechanic. But, we love the vehicle and with only 114,000 original miles I figured after reading for hours posts on this website it was well worth it, so this trucks should be good for another 10-15 years-I hope! Note this is the first work completed besides O&F for the last 4 years. Although we only drive between 2500-3500 miles per year. All the work was just base lining and the vehicle was having no problems; again after reading the forum here I knew the work should be done.

Going through a similar experience.
At 73K miles both CV Axles boots split and were gushing out grease.
This surprised me with so low mileage and its never used off road.
I went with x2 after market CV Axles and had a shop install them for $268 labor.
Boots splitting at this low mileage is making me question "Toyota quality" and hoping the aftermarket CVs are an improvement.
Another well known Toyota/Lexus Indy did my Timing Belt/etc using genuine OEM parts, and Brake Flushed.
Lexus Service Center did my PS leak fix - thought it was possibly the Rack but turned out to be the PS Pump.
The OEM PS Pump was way more expensive than the aftermarket version.
I replaced the gear oil in by Front and Rear Diff and Transfer Case - Mobile1 Synthetic 75W90.
I replaced the Spark Plugs with Iridium Denso 3297 plugs from Amazon.
Costco for Michelin Tires.

Last thing is replacing the fluid in the Transmission but thinking about holding off as the fluid looks red and clean.
Sometime in a couple years or so there are likely Brake Pads to be done.

Lot to do to Baseline these fantastic trucks.

I'm willing to bet your CV boots splitting was an age issue.

Also hoping that the rubber compound in the new boots is more durable.
And, my LX470 being 22 years old when they split, I'll be 98 years old in 22 more years ... so no need to worry :)

Kurt, while we got you here, do you have an opinion on the 555 inner and outer TRE kit vs OEM? 555 is substantially cheaper in this case, and everything I've seen about 555 is it's generally high quality. I'm looking at replacing my TREs soon and am eyeing the 555 inner/outer kit.

We stock both... I use 555 on my personal stuff. If that says anything :D

555 is a fantastic Japanese made part. The OEM ends are painted, other than that quality and fitment is near identical.

I went to place an order this morning for the 555 tie rod set and it’s out of stock 😭 Any idea when they’ll be back in stock?

Why buy 555 TRE, when Toyota sells us OEM TRE. :hmm: I never got that one!

OEM TRE don't rust and last a very long time. Much longer, if people would stop using BFH, to pop TRE (and ball joints) off knuckle. Pullers are all I ever used.

I use 555 ball joints (BJ), because Toyota will not sell OEM BJ separate from control arm (LCA or UCA). Are 555 BJ the best, no! But $500 LCA vs $50 555 BJ. Is no brainer, if, CA is in good condition.

555 TRE, I get 50K to100K. OEM 250k to 500K. Most either because hammer hit (BFH) or boot hole. Exception, is when replacing rack & pinion (R&P). I like to go ahead an R&R outer TRE with R&P.

Which kit are you after?

Easy. Cost and ease of supply. It's zero shock to me that many want a high quality proven solution for half the cost of than OEM option. Turns out we've made a decent business offering both :D

Nor do painted 555's, it's obviously an additional expense/effort but I don't think most find that added instance worth the delta of cost. Again, we stock/sell both... we ship what customers demand. We sell hundreds of OEM Tie Rod ends (not just 100/470) annually and thousands of 555, warranty inquiries don't vary as much as they do with other OEM vs Japanese aftermarket parts options fwiw.
