so I think we missed the meeting... the run is scheduled for this weekend, Sunday the 25th IIRC. Tank Trap was the plan.
who's still up for it?
I am certainly wanting to go.

Yep. Ready.

we have a commitment in ABQ at 3 on sunday... where is tank traps, think i can squeak it in?

What time?

What is the difficulty?

My son Paul is home with his 80 and depending on the trail I might take my 40...

Either way, we would like to go... what are the details?

trail is up near Santa Fe. 3pm may be pushing it to get back, if not impossible.

I would put it at a 4-4+. not really stock friendly, but many of the rock gardens have bypasses. that is per what I can remember from several years ago. anyone been on it more recently?

let's say 9am at the north portal? bug out by 9:30.

It's a bit of a challenging trail. It can get your attention. There's some off-camber stuff at the beginning of the trail that gets a little iffy. That stuff always makes me just a little nervous, but it's not too bad.

There's a good chance of dragging branches down the side of your truck getting to the trailhead, if that's of any concern to you. My truck is pre-dinged and pre-scratched, so not a concern.

There are some big rock gardens as Shawn mentioned. I think we went through a few years ago with an 80 (Rory's?) and the exhaust was pretty well hammered shut on the rocks. I don't remember the details, but it seemed that some exhaust pipe modification (i.e, sawzall) was required to continue the run.

It is a fun trail, but I just wanted to give you a little more info, not to scare you off. If anyone wants to give more insight, please feel free.

I would like to go, but I'm a maybe for now. I will try to make it work.

Depending on how important your commitment is, I don't think I would risk it. We go up to Santa Fe, then head around on the 599 bypass, and it's in the Caja Del Rio area near the landfill, then we head off into the boonies. It's not a real long trail in terms of miles, but it's pretty slow going. I would guess that we'd be back by 5:00 or so, depending on carnage.

hmm sounds like a fun trail but i would be pushing it too close... figures...:bang:

next time i hope.

Hey, that's me!

4-4+ out of what? 5? I'm used to Colorado trails, so rock gardens should be fine... I'm not stock: about 4" lift on 35's, only missing armor on the front bumper.

Branches aren't much concern, I've dragged plenty on some narrow forest roads in CO. I'm not really looking to get busted though, scratched is alright. I've re-routed my exhaust, it's above the frame all except where it comes out behind the rear passenger side tire, so I don't know how that will affect it.

You'll be fine. I did tank trap in my 80 on 33's and 2.5" of lift.

Fun trail. Wish I was off, or i'd try to make the trip.

I've known of several 80's that made it through unscathed - in fact there was only the one exhaust problem Evan mentioned that I recall - Evan's brother-in-law went through in his stock pickup, and I don't think he suffered any body damage. He did rub off a valve stem and get a flat, but I think that's it. It's a fun and fairly challenging trail.

Unfortunately I don't think I can make this one, but it's a possibility.

I am planning to be there, and I'm looking forward to it. I'll see you guys at 9:00 at the north portal on Sunday.

Paul - As Trout Runner said, I agree and think you'll be fine with your setup. I just didn't want anyone to be surprised. It is a fun trail. We'll also show you some options for your exhaust so it's un-smashable!

By the way, who's comfortable leading the trail? (Shawn, Pappy?) I've been through it several times, but I don't remember how to get to the beginning of the trail.

gdi guys... you are making me rethink my "commitment" for the afternoon...

good point Evan, who knows how to get there? I don't mind going first through the trail, but finding it is up to someone else.

If Ash gets home, i bet he has the gps info.
