Gdi... You guys have fun... I'll make next time... Speaking of, it's sedona right?

Sent from my SCH-I510 using IH8MUD

Yes, we are planning Sedona for Columbus Day weekend. Check the "October Club trip" thread for more details.

Great time here also. Thanks to all of you! For me, my wife and kids are my heroes; they did great considering it was a long day!

that was a crazy day! we got to do everything- spotting, fixing, winching, strapping, jacking, reseating tire beads. all major damage was averted though.
in attendance- myself and Brock(FJ40), Gage, Stephanie and family(FJcruiser), Paul, Guy and Kay(FZJ80), Ali and Lynn (FZJ80), Evan (FJZ80), Jon (FJ40), and Kheun (rubicon).
it was a sign of a long day when we ate lunch at the first obstacle with Gage perched on the edge of falling into the pond and Ali holding him with a winch line. I think we spent close to 2.5 hours there. someone post pics and finish the story, I have to go to bed!

holy crap, i missed some excitement!

PICS!

yes you did! I got home at 9:30pm. we finished the last little bit of the trail in near dark. here's a few pics.
the one of Voodoo doesn't look bad, but he couldn't go forward because of a rock in front of his front end suspension and had slid sideways with the back tire to here.

It was a very good day. A long day, but worth every minute.

Kheun got hung up here in the same spot, along with Ali. the strap helped keep him from tipping (it was way worse than it looks in pics).

during lunch, the RC's came out. they wheeled way better than we could.:D

I got no pics of myself, so if anyone got some please post.
we missed the shot of me coming out of a narrow trench. near vertical and soft dirt. I rocketed out before pics could be taken. I went back to do it again and lost both fuel pumps before I could get there. Evan pulled me a while, but we pulled a tire off the bead. it was a nasty spot to get the tire off the ground too. 1 hour later we finally got it reseated.

Yup, that was a crazy day but a good way to beat the jet lag! First, we weren't sure where the trail started and I didn't have my usual nav equipment. Still, I managed to get us to the trail head and it looked a little different from previously. This trail has morphed from two years ago.

Water level at the first obstacle was low so we had better traction to the approach. However, some of us were able to beat the off camber departure by taking a "high" departure. But, this high exit has a drop off which is a rear bumper eater! As Bionic stated, this obstacle consumed a huge amount of time.

Following the first obstacle, we spent some time spotting the lower rigs through the rest of the trail, which has become way more aggressive than in the past years. Vodoo now has more of a real appreciation for wheeling with a stick shift and the lack of a super low, low tcase!! The Rubicon realized he needs more lift and tires. Still, both drivers did fantastic and listened to spotters.

I'm sure more pics will be forth coming but I think we worked well as a team and practiced safe recovery techniques. There were no injuries, no panicking, no yelling/shouting and no finger pinching (we came close!). Guy's son, Paul did an outstanding job at wheeling, listening to spotters and also helping out with his hi-lift jack. We all learned the benefits of using a hi-lift and a bottle jack to stabilize a vehicle that is not staying put as it got lifted higher and higher.

All in all, a fun but a long day. I did wish that I had brought more food and water.

Ya, then Evan put a hole in his side wall resulting in a tire change. So,

Shawn looses fuel pump. Evan pulls Shawn without power steering, causing Shawn to roll bead. Evan then pops tire.

Bead reseated. Tire changed. Then at the end Shawn discovers no power to the pumps, so we hot wire them and he drives out under his own power ... after Kheun sets his oil pan down on a rock.

It was a long, long day, but everyone survived, learned stuff and I think had a good time, all things considered. Shawn's friend Kheun's JK did an amazing job for a low truck, but made it through despite being parked on it's oil pan for a bit! After a complicated bit of jacking Bionic's 38" Irok managed to get it's beads back on the rim. Ali's rear bumper managed to find a point of rock that was the perfect anchor. Because of participating in extractions, or inattention, or laziness or a combination of the above I didn't get photos of the good stuff, but here's what I did get...

Ali and the bumper hang-up...

None of the pics do justice to the off-camber angles, real pucker factors. Especially this of the FJ Cruiser. It was in a very precarious position.
